Lehighton Scouting troops asked to partner with Parks & Rec Board to begin annual event

Published February 11. 2020 01:56PM

Lehighton scouting troops are asked to do their part in creating an annual event to benefit the community.

Pick Up Pennsylvania is part of the national Great American Cleanup from March 1 through May 31.

Communities are being asked to organize and conduct local cleanups — recruit volunteers, promote their event and report their results for inclusion in statewide and national cleanup totals.

Business and trade organizations, state government agencies, environmental and civic organizations, and many others, have all volunteered to assist local communities with conducting successful and safe cleanups.

Lehighton’s Parks & Recreation Board plans to hold an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lehighton Municipal Building, at which time tasks will be assigned and dates scheduled.

The board asks each Scout organization to limit their attendees to one adult and one Scout to act as a liaison between the borough and the organizations.

This program can be used by Scouts for their community service hours, advancements and badge requirements.

Statistics from last year’s Great American Cleanup of PA show that Carbon County was lacking in events, volunteers and progress.
