Lehighton will research transformer replacement
Replacing one of its substation transformers could come with a hefty price tag for Lehighton.
Lonny Armbruster, superintendent of the borough’s Light & Power Department, discussed the matter with borough council on Monday.
Armbruster said that one of the transformers has had some moisture issues, has been losing some nitrogen and he’s unsure of where it’s been going.
He said the transformer in question has been utilized by the borough since 2004, but that it was actually built in 1978.
Afterward, council agreed to proceed with research concerning the replacement for the purchase of at least one transformer.
The estimated cost to replace the transformer would be about $750,000.
