LHS’ Bradley-Chambers now listed as a junior

Lehighton High School recently petitioned District 11 to have the eligibility changed for student-athlete TaQuon Bradley-Chambers.

Bradley-Chambers had been listed as a senior during the recently completed football season, but his status has now been changed to a junior.

District 11 still has to officially ratify the change at its February meeting. Although he is currently being classified a junior on the Lehighton basketball roster, Bradley-Chambers’ status has been complicated by the fact that he played in the recent Schuylkill County Football All-Star game that is only open to seniors.

Bradley-Chambers is coming off an outstanding football season for Lehighton during which he rushed for 2,097 yards and scored 22 touchdowns. He played an important role as the Indians went 12-1 and reached the District 11 Class 3A championship game.

As a student at the group home Concern, which is located in the Lehighton School District, Bradley-Chambers was allowed to play sports for the Indians. Earlier this month, Bradley-Chambers left the Concern program and enrolled in Lehighton High School as a student. It was at that point, the school district realized he was only a junior academically.

Lehighton Athletic Director Kyle Spotts released the following statement on Bradley-Chambers’ status:

“We recently received notification from District 11 on a request from the school district to establish the year of eligibility of a student-athlete who participated in our football program this past year and is currently a member of our basketball program. The school district had him listed as a senior, but once all of the information was gathered from his previous school districts, we felt the student-athlete was a junior. We submitted a request for an eligibility ruling to District 11 and the district has confirmed he is in fact a junior. This information will be ratified by District 11 at its February committee meeting.

“Unfortunately, the student-athlete did participate in an All-Star game at the conclusion of the football season. The school district is prepared to attend the District 11 committee meeting in February to discuss the situation and any implications that could come as a result.”
