The Carbon Monarchs received a pitching gem from Justin Marykwas to open their Lehigh Valley Legion season with a victory.

Justin Marykwas pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Carbon Monarchs to a 6-0 win over Lower Macungie in their Lehigh Valley Legion season opener.

Marykwas walked four and struck out 11.

The Monarchs (1-0) scored in each of the first three innings, building a 5-0 advantage.

Brad Buzzard had a hit and scored twice for the winners, while James Lordi added a triple, three walks, an RBI and a run scored.

Carbon also received a hit and RBI from Jake Taras, and a hit and run from Jared Joyce.

Balliet-Northern Valley

Northern Valley scored nine times in the first inning and cruised to a 14-8 Connie Mack win over the Balliet Vikes.

Cole Hausman paced the Chargers with four hits, three of them doubles, and three RBIs. Josh Kistler added two hits, knocked in three runs and scored twice, while Ryan Hammond contributed two hits and three runs.

The winners also received two hits from Rhys George, Chase Misera and Morgan LaBuda. George and Misera also had two RBIs, while Misera and LaBuda both scored twice.
