St. Luke’s Miners Campus

St. Luke’s Miners is looking for volunteers to help make a difference with our patients in the Skilled Nursing Unit, Inpatient Nursing, Emergency Department or Hospice by spending time socializing, providing comfort items, and assisting staff with various supportive duties. Lehighton Alumni Association

The Lehighton Alumni Association is looking for event coordinators, individuals who have a desire to organize, promote and coordinate events to promote camaraderie among Lehighton graduates and friends. If interested, contact Candice at lehightonalumni@gmail.com.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program has a volunteer opportunity at a West End health care facility. Volunteers are needed to assist residents in wheelchairs with mobility projects. Such assistance can mean that a resident can now have the ability to go to restaurants or shopping and not be confined to the nursing home. The facility provides all transit. Volunteers are needed to push wheelchairs. Travel is done on groups.

RSVP is seeking new volunteers to conduct interactive presentations that address situations like home fires, floods, etc.

All training is provided by American Red Cross in group sessions. One must be comfortable presenting the subject in a classroom setting and enjoy young children. Red Cross will provide necessary additional clearances that may be needed.

Also, Blood Drive Ambassadors are needed to assist with registration and refreshments. They must be positive, upbeat and enjoy meeting new people. All training is provided. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will be called as needed.

Potential volunteers can contact the Carbon County Environmental Education Center at 570-645-8597, email at cceec@ptd.net or stop in to talk to us and pick up paperwork.

Volunteers need to have a criminal history clearance and a child abuse clearance done on them before they can begin to volunteer. Both are simple to get.

Available volunteer possibilities include: Creative writing projects, computer (data entry), computer — graphic design, computer — videographer, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, roofing, landscaping — gardening, animal care, marketing and event planning.

Carbon Veterans Treatment Court

The Carbon County Veterans Affairs office is looking for volunteer mentors for the Veterans Treatment Court.

Mentors serve as sponsors to veterans in trouble with the law due to addiction and other issues.

Mentors must be either male or female veterans, preferably having served in combat but not required, who are willing to assist the person by appearing at court appearances with them, spending some time outside the courts and being available to talk or visit the veteran when needed.

A variety of veterans are needed for the mentor program because participants can range anywhere from someone who was deployed recently to someone who served in combat decades ago.

Carbon medical van

The Carbon County Veterans Affairs office is in need of volunteer drivers for its Disabled American Veterans van service.

The van transports veterans to the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.

Kunkletown Thrift Store

The Kunkletown Thrift Store located inside of the Eldred Township Community Center of 516 Kunkletown Road, needs helpers primarily to sort through donations that come in on a daily basis, price, clean (if necessary) and put them in their designated areas, there are also a few other small/easy tasks. Must be at least 15 years of age, lift more than 5 pounds, and have their own transportation. If any interest please contact Heidi or Donna at the center 610-895-4444, or feel free to stop in during business hours.

Walnutport Canal Association

The Walnutport Canal Association is in need of volunteers. The Lehigh Canal, which runs through Walnutport, was completed in 1829. The main purpose was to transport coal from the coal mines in northeastern Pennsylvania and bring various goods back to our area from the ports of Philadelphia and New York. The Walnutport Canal Association maintains the area in and around the canal. Please plan on attending one of our monthly meetings to learn about volunteer opportunities. The association meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Walnutport Borough Municipal Building located at 417 Lincoln Ave. in Walnutport. Volunteering for the WCA doesn’t need to require a lot of time or effort. Our volunteers utilize their God-given talents to make the WCA one of the greatest nonprofit organizations in our area. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting; however, if you are unable to attend a meeting your time can be spent in other ways. We always need volunteers for our annual spring cleanup and at our annual canal festival.
