Tamaqua and Jim Thorpe picked up wins in both girls and boys basketball last night.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-Kutztown

Tamaqua took advantage of a solid first half to run away with an 83-56 non-league win over Kutztown.

Brayden Knoblauch and Lucas Gregoire had hot hands for the Blue Raiders, as they tied for a game-high with 21 points each. Teammate Barron Stauffenberg chipped in with 15 points.

The Cougars’ Lucas Floyd recorded a game-high 22 points, while Marlon Creech added 16.

The Olympians pulled out a 39-36 win over Minersville in a non-league game.

Adam Lauer’s game-high 16 points led the Olympians, who had seven players score in the game but only one with more than seven.

The Miners were led by Scott Schwalm’s 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pen Argyl-Jim Thorpe

A 31-point opening quarter sparked Jim Thorpe to a 60-24 non-conference win over visiting Pen Argyl.

Skyler Searfoss netted 11 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter, while Leila Hurley recorded 13 of her 19 points in the same stanza.

Kutztown-Tamaqua

Emma Kuczynski recorded a fourth consecutive double-double to highlight Tamaqua’s commanding 64-17 non-league victory over visiting Kutztown.

Kuczynski netted 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with seven steals. The Raiders’ Jen Frederickson chipped in with 16 points.

Tamaqua remains unbeaten at 4-0 overall on the season.

WRESTLING

Northwestern-Pen Argyl

Northwestern’s late surge fell short as Pen Argyl edged the visitors for a 42-33 Colonial League win.

Lucas Miller (152 pounds) and Harrison Bernhard (160) both earned late-match pins to pull the Tigers close, but it was a little too late to pull out a victory. Tyler Watson (170), Ryan Havercamp (195) and Jake Dellicker (126) all registered earlier falls for Northwestern.
