Panther Valley picked up victories in boys and girls basketball on Saturday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hamburg-Panther Valley

Panther Valley pulled out a close non-league victory over Hamburg, 54-52.

Leading the Panthers was Aaron Gutierrez with 18 points. Blake White added 14.

For Hamburg, Ethan Kennedy had 15 points.

Hamburg won the JV contest, 52-41.

Lehighton-Northern Lehigh

Zach Hunsicker scored eight of his team-high 16 points in the second quarter to help Lehighton build a lead and eventually gain a 61-51 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.

The Indians (2-1), who also received 15 points from Devon Haydt and 10 from both Ben Schatz and Josh Smith, used a 22-11 second frame to earn an eight-point haltime advantage.

Zach Moyer tallied a team-high 16 points for the Bulldogs (0-6). Carter Smith chipped in 13.

Weatherly’s Scott Zoscin continued his hot streak, leading his team to a 56-41 non-league win over Northumberland Christian.

Zoscin had 23 points to lead all scorers,. Antonio Colecio added 12 for the Wreckers.

Jack Garvin and David King both scored 12 for Northumberland Christian.

Brandywine-Northwestern

Northwestern used a big fourth quarter to pull away for a 72-60 non-league victory over Brandywine Heights.

Sean McCann had 21 points to lead the Tigers, who scored 29 points in the final period to turn a three-point lead into a double digit win. Deven Bollinger added 14 points for Northwestern, Luke Hallman had 13 and Nick Henrychipped in 11.

John Harrison led all scorers with 28 for Brandywine Heights.

Northwestern also won the JV game, 54-37.

For the Golden Bears, Shane MIller’s 19 points and Josh Ramos’ 14 led the way.

James Adames topped the Olympians with nine points.

East Stroudsburg South had the stronger second half to take down Pleasant Valley, 52-44, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game.

Mylo Santos led the winners with 19 points, including three triples.

For the Bears, Joe Contreras scored a game-high 23 points.

Marian cruised to a 73-35 non-league victory over MMI Prep on Friday.

Tyler Fritz scored a game-high 22 points for the Colts (3-0), while Chris Ritsick added 15.

Fritz tallied 16 of his points in the first half as Marian built a 29-point halftime lead.

Erika Dubosky poured in a game-high 31 points to lead Panther Valley to a 51-42 non-league win over Hamburg.

Backing up Dubosky’s monster effort was Megan Pascoe with 11 points.

Nina Klahr scored 16 points to lead Hamburg.

Skyler Searfoss led a trio of Olympian scorers in double digits with 21 points. Olivia Smelas added 18 points and Leila Hurley had 10.

SWIMMING

Moravian-Tamaqua

Moravian Academy swept Tamaqua in non-league action, winning the girls meet 99-69 and the boys meet 108-54.

Madelyn Jones captured first place finishes in both the 200-yard freestlye and 500-yard freestyle for the Tamaqua girls.

For the Raider boys, Zeno Zukovich won the 50-yard freestyle and anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team.

WRESTLING

Panther Valley at

Carlisle Tournament

Jordan McColgan had Panther Valley’s top performance at the Carlisle Tournament.

The Panthers’ 220-pounder pinned Miguel Rivera of West York Area in his opening bout. After dropping his next bout, McColgan beat Jeremy Hockenberry-Folk of West Perry in a consolation bout before being pinned by Jack Sullivan of Greencastle Antrim and eliminated from medal contention.
