The Palmerton, Marian and Weatherly girls all gained wins in tournament consolation games over the weekend.

The Blue Bombers defeated Northern Lehigh, the Fillies pounded Mount Calvary, while the Wreckers rolled past Schuylkill Haven.

In boys action, Panther Valley and Weatherly posted victories, while numerous wrestling teams competed in holiday tournaments.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Palmerton- Northern Lehigh

Palmerton finished as strong as it started to earn a 44-28 win over Northern Lehigh in the consolation game of the Lady Indians Holiday Classic.

Bethie Morgan paced the Blue Bombers with 14 points, while Regan Nemeth tallied 12 and Kayla Cincilla added 10.

Emma Niebell led the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Marian-Mount Calvary

Four players finished in double figures as Marian rolled to a 52-16 win over Mount Calvary in the consolation game of the Lebanon Catholic Tournament.

Julia Kreisl led the Fillies (3-5) with 12 points, while Ashley Pleban followed with 11. Abbey Digris and Macy Alansky both finished with 10 points.

Jim Thorpe-Northampton

Northampton captured the Pocono Mountain West Christmas Tournament title with a 41-36 victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Olympians (6-1) used a strong second half to pull close, but just couldn’t overcome an 11-point halftime deficit.

Skyler Searfoss netted a team-high 14 points for Thorpe, while Leila Hurley chipped in with 11.

Weatherly wrapped up the consolation game of its own Holiday Christmas Tournament with a 42-23 win over Schuylkill Haven.

Ashley James paced the Wreckers (2-5) with 19 points, while Emma Kane finished with 12.

BOYS BASKETBALL

MMI Prep-Panther Valley

A 24-point opening quarter sparked Panther Valley to a 63-44 non-league victory over MMI Prep.

Brandon Stilitino netted 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first stanza, while Aaron Gutierrez recorded six of his 17 in the same frame.

The Panthers (6-2) also received 10 points from Blake White.

WRESTLING

Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament

Archbishop Ryan won the team title at the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament.

Host Jim Thorpe finished in sixth place, while Panther Valley was 17th.

The Olympians’ Derek Hunter captured the only local title with a first-place finish at 285 pounds.

Thorpe’s William Schwartz (113) and Jared Newhall (170) placed second in their respective weight classes, while Caleb McDermott (3rd, 182), Kendall Herron (4th, 195), Gabe Heaney (6th, 126) Ridge Snyder (7th, 106), Justin Aue (8th, 152) and Nick Fayocavitz (8th, 170) also earned medals.

Eric Moyer (160) was the only medalists for the Panthers, finishing fifth.

 

Iasiello Christmas City Tournament

Lehighton finished eighth at the Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament.

Host Bethlehem Catholic grabbed the team title with 272.5 points.

The Indians’ Brett Gasker finished second at 220 pounds, while Nick Zeigenfuss (126), Jon Ahner (152) and Alex Zeigenfuss (189) all finished with fifth-place finishes.

Mason Ferguson (126) and Steven Fritzinger (132) both ended in sixth.

 

Bob Rohm Memorial Tournament

Northern Lehigh and Pleasant Valley took part in the Bob Rohm Memorial Tournament.

PV earned a 48-36 win over Northern Lehigh in a battle between the two squads, while they lost decisions to Central Columbia (49-26), Mifflinburg (51-28) and Mount Carmel (57-24).

The Bulldogs earned a 39-36 win over Columbia-Montour VT, but suffered setbacks to Pleasant Valley, Central Columbia (48-22), Mifflinburg (60-15) and Bloomsburg (40-34).

Alexander Womack, Chris Frable and Josh Griffith all had three wins for the Bears, while Everett Lata added two.

The Bulldogs’ Brendan Smay, Preston Bauer, Nate Ellan, Trevor Amorim, Matt Frame and Josh Schaffer all finished 4-1.

 

Bethlehem Holiday Classic

Northwestern finished 24th out of a field of 31 teams at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic over the weekend.

Harrison Bernhard was the lone medalists for the Tigers. He placed fifth in the 152-pound weight class.

 

Gov. Mifflin Holiday Tournament

Palmerton ended in 15th place out of 23 teams at the Governor Mifflin Holiday Wrestling Tournament.

Shawn Gardner (160) led the Bombers with a third-place finish, while Matt Lalik (170) added a fourth-place medal. Jeremy Mooney (220, 6th) and Daniel Lucykanish (126, 8th) also medaled for Palmerton.
