Williams Valley handed Marian its first loss of the season on Monday.

Area teams to pick up wins included the Jim Thorpe boys and Northern Lehigh girls.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Williams Valley

Despite a late rally, Williams Valley was able to hold off Marian for a 72-65 Schuylkill League win.

The loss was the first of the season for the Colts (11-1; 5-1).

Bo Raho led the Vikings (9-3; 5-1) with 25 points, while Jesse Engle added 23.

Marian’s Tyler Fritz poured in 33 points, including 18 in the final quarter, as his team attempted a comeback. Chris Ritsick finished with 12 points, while Dante Agosti added 11. The Colts also received nine rebounds from Zack Hnat.

Marian won the JV game, 65-56, as Mason Gibson scored 20 points.

Jim Thorpe-N. Schuylkill

Caiden Hurley hit five three-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points to help Jim Thorpe pull out a 52-51 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

The Olympians (4-10; 2-5) also received 10 points from Adam Lauer, who tallied seven of his points during the third quarter when the winners outscored their opponent by a 14-4 margin, and nine from James Adames.

Jack Flynn finished with a team-high 15 points for the Spartans (2-11; 0-7).

Pottsville-Lehighton

Pottsville scored early and often in cruising to a 74-40 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

The Crimson Tide, who hit 11 three-pointers in the contest, received a game-high 19 points from Mason Barnes.

Rich Yturrino finished with a team-high 14 points for the Indians (6-8; 3-4) while Zach Hunsicker added 13.

With the win, Pottsville improved to 11-3 overall and 7-0 in the league.

Weatherly-Tri-Valley

A strong third quarter by Tri-Valley helped the Bulldogs gain a 48-32 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Kole Ney tallied 11 points for the winners, who extended a slim halftime lead by outscoring the Wreckers by an 18-6 margin in the third.

For Weatherly (6-6; 1-5), Antonio Colecio finished with a game-high 13 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northern Lehigh rolled to a 69-23 non-league victory over Lincoln Leadership Academy.

Emma Niebell made six three-pointers and finished with a game-high 29 points for the Bulldogs (7-6), who built a 30-point halftime lead.

The winners also received 12 points from Kaylee Wilk, while Sophia Lear chipped in with 10.

Salem Christian used a big third quarter to pull away from Weatherly for a 56-35 non-league victory.

Sara Nagy scored seven of her game-high 16 points in the third frame as the Eagles (9-4) used a 22-4 period to take control.

The Wreckers (2-10) received a team-high 15 points from Ashley James, while Emma Kane chipped in with nine.

Marian-Panther Valley

Panther Valley topped Marian, 65-59.

Stephen Hood paced the Panthers with 22 points, while Isiah Marcharro and Drew Kokinda both added nine.

Marian’s Isaac Ferreira led all scorers with 29 points.

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area

Weatherly dropped a 57-20 decision to Mahanoy Area.

Chris Cuff paced the winners with 15 points, while Owen Broskoskie and Jack James each had five points for the Wreckers.

8TH GRADE

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area

Weatherly’s Ian McKeegan scored eight points but the Wreckers dropped a 44-16 decision to Mahanoy Area.

The Bears received 10 points from Jace Yedsena.

JR. HIGH GIRLS B-BALL

Tamaqua-ES South

Ava Agosti scored 10 points to help Tamaqua post a 33-27 win over East Stroudsburg South in the A game.

Carly Minchoff added seven points and nine rebounds, while Samantha Plasha also tallied seven points.

In the B game, Plasha’s 12 points powered Tamaqua to a 22-16 victory.
