Palmerton, Panther Valley and Marian all posted boys basketball victories on Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Salisbury-Palmerton

Palmerton rode a big second quarter to a 51-46 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

The Bombers (7-9, 5-7) were led by Nate Dougherty’s 14 points. Kody Kratzer followed with 13 points and Justin Hosier added 12.

For Salisbury (3-12, 3-8), Jack Reichenbach led the way with 16 points.

Salisbury won the JV game, 49-40.

Panther Vy. Sch. Haven

Panther Valley built a big early lead and went on to post a 71-60 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven

The Panthers (10-4, 6-1) led by over 20 points in the opening half as Haven hit just two of its first 24 shots from the field. PV was in charge the rest of the way, although the Hurricanes did close to within eight late in the game.

Rene Figueroa led Panther Valley with 24 points. Allen Perez added 20 points and Tristan Blasko finished with 17.

For Haven (6-8, 3-3), Albe Evans poured in 23 points.

Tyler Fritz poured in 38 points to lead Marian to a 78-59 Schuylkill League victory over Williams Valley.

Fritz’s huge night was fourth on the all-time single game scoring list at Marian. The school record is 42 points shared by Mark Makovec and Chris Decker.

In addition to Fritz’s big night, the Colts (5-7, 3-3) also got solid contributions from Noah Stauffer (16 points) and Chris Ristick (15 points).

Marian hit 17 three-pointers in the game with Fritz (eight) and Ristick (five) leading the way.

Jordan Holmqvist and Peter Chiaradia had 14 points apiece for the Lions (9-5, 9-5), who trailed by a point entering the final quarter.

For the Bulldogs (9-7, 6-7), Brandon Hess led the way with 17 points. Nate Keller added 14, and Gio Colon chipped in 10.

The Spartans (8-4, 3-3) got a huge 28-point performance from Zach Stokes.

For the Raiders (11-3, 5-2), Thad Zuber tossed in 15 points. Lucas Gregoire and Gabe Gregoire chipped in 12 and nine points respectively.

Tamaqua won the JV game, 62-44.

Nativity had four players score in double figures in its 69-56 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Raphael Muldrow tallied a game-high 19 points for the Hilltoppers, who used a 16-7 third quarter to extend a three-point halftime lead.

The Wreckers (5-7; 2-4) received a team-high 18 points from Gabe Miller, while Steph Yurchak finished with 14.

In the JV game, Nativity won a 46-38 decision. Elijah Derr led Weatherly with 13 points.

Emmaus jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 62-42 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Artis and Brooks each scored 16 points for the Hornets (7-6), who held a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.

The Bears (6-7) received a team-high 12 points from both Collin Stivala and Mike Duviella.

Saucon Valley-Jim Thorpe

Devon Lignore scored a game-high 14 points to help lift Jim Thorpe to a 46-34 non-league win over Saucon Valley.

Lignore tallied eight of her points in the first half as the Olympians (6-9) built a 12-point halftime lead.

Payton Kovac had a double-double for the winners, scoring 11 points while pulling down 14 rebounds. Thorpe also received nine points from Natalia Richards.

For the Panthers, Shannon Williams netted a team-high 12 points.

Linnaea Leister drained six-pointers in helping Palmerton gain a 45-32 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Leister, who finished with a game-high 22 points, hit four of her treys during the second half as the Blue Bombers (8-8; 7-5) rallied from a halftime deficit.

Baylee Guedes contributed 10 points to the win, while Kayla Cincilla chipped in with eight.

A furious fourth-quarter rally by Northern Lehigh fell just short as Moravian Academy escaped with a 50-48 Colonial League victory.

The Bulldogs (5-10, 5-6) trailed by 15 points heading into the final period before storming back behind Jill Olewine, who scored 13 points in the quarter, and Jada Saeger, who added six. But Moravian (5-9, 4-7) was able to hold on for the win.

Olewine led the Bulldogs with an outstanding 32-point performance, that included six three-pointers. Saeger added nine points.

SWIMMING

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

The North Schuylkill girls took first in nine of the 12 events, but Tamaqua’s depth allowed the Blue Raiders to earn a 99-86 Schuylkill League victory.

In the boys meet, Tamaqua dropped a 94-50 decision.

Tressa Barron (diving) and Lexi Kerstetter (100 back) posted individual wins for the Raiders, who also captured the 200 medley relay. Tamaqua had a 79-28 advantage in points scored in second through fifth place.

Billy Shilko had the only first for the Raiders in the boys meet, winning the diving competition.

Nanticoke-Salisbury-Northwestern

Northwestern swept a double dual meet with Nanticoke and Salisbury on Thursday.

The Tigers rolled to a 75-3 non-league victory over Nanticoke and followed that with an 84-0 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Northwestern’s Colin Rex (145), Jackson Bernhard (160), Isaac Bredbenner (195), Quinn Moyer (220), Jake Dellicker (106) and Harrison Bernhard all had pins against Nanticoke.

Only two bouts were contested in the Salisbury match. Northwestern got pins from Harrison Bernhard and Moyer.
