Local roundup: Results from March 27
Palmerton pounded out a win over Northwestern in Colonial League softball action on Wednesday.
The Panther Valley softball and baseball teams also picked up their first victories of the season, while the Tamaqua boys and girls earned a sweep in track and field action.
In tennis, Jim Thorpe blanked Lehighton.

Palmerton-Northwestern
Palmerton used the long ball to power its way to a 6-1 Colonial League win over Northwestern.
The Bombers’ (2-0) Megan Green and Kailah Altemose both delivered solo home runs.
Lexi Merkel tossed a complete game two-hitter, which included a dozen strikeouts and no walks.
The Tigers’ (1-1) Emily Akelaitis prevented a shutout, as she drilled a solo home run in the last inning.

Panther Valley rolled to a 12-5 victory over Lourdes Regional.
Brianna Staehle led the Panthers (1-0) with two singles and a double, while Claire Kokinda added a double and a triple.
Teammates Brenna Beshock (three-run home run), Megan Pascoe (single, triple) and Katrina Horvath (single, triple) also contributed in the win.

A four-run third inning helped Southern Lehigh pull away for an 8-2 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
Sydney Stine paced the Spartans (4-0) with two singles, while Zoey Ritter followed with a single, a run scored and two RBIs.
Lauren Hoffman led the Bulldogs with two singles and two RBIs, while Shyanna Williams added two runs scored and a walk.
Teammate Katie Yesik scored the lone Bulldogs’ (0-2) extra base hit with a double.

A monster opening inning sparked Panther Valley to a 20-5 four-inning non-league victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.
Josh Robin led the Panthers’ (1-1) with two doubles, a single, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Chuck Byers added two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Teammates Brad Buzzard (two singles, three runs scored, RBI) and Jake Taras (single, double, two RBIs) contributed for Panther Valley, which scored 16 runs in the first frame.

Stephen Hoyer’s big day at the plate highlighted Southern Lehigh’s 15-4 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
Hoyer went 4-for-5, which included three singles, a double, a run scored and three RBIs for the Spartans (1-1).
Preston Bauer recorded the Bulldogs’ (1-1) lone hit with a first-inning single. Bauer also scored a run.
Teammates Aaron Rudolph, Alec Berger and Hunter Evans all crossed home plate with a run.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua
Tamaqua earned a sweep in a Schuylkill League meet against Pine Grove.
The Blue Raiders posted a 98-51 win on the boys’ side, while the Lady Raiders cruised to a 110-32 victory.
Tamaqua’s Matthew Kistler (100, 200), Zeno Zukovich (110H, 300H), Matthew Amodea (Shot put, Discus) and Barron Stauffenberg (Long, triple jump) all grabbed first-place finishes.
Sarah Maue (1600, 3200) and Serena Jones (Long, triple jump) were multiple event winners for the Lady Raiders.
