The Tamaqua boys captured the team title at the Olympian Invitational on Friday, while the Lehighton girls shared the team title at the annual event.

Elsewhere, Northwestern earned baseball and softball victories against Pen Argyl. The Tamaqua softball team, and Jim Thorpe and Northern Lehigh baseball squads also earned wins.

TRACK & FIELD

Olympian Invitational

Lehighton’s Kaia Slaw won three individual events to help the Indian girls gain a share of the team title at the annual Olympian Invitational on Friday.

The Tamaqua boys, meanwhile, received firsts from Barron Stauffenberg and Derian Stianche to help the Blue Raiders egde host Jim Thorpe, 118-92, for the team championship.

Slaw captured the long jump, triple jump and high jump. Lehighton, which tied Blue Mountain with 88 points, also received individual firsts from Isabelle Meckes in the discus and Isabella Baka in the pole vault. Meckes extended her school record in the discus with a throw of 135-2. Abigail Meckes ended up second in the discus.

Northern Lehigh received a pair of seconds from Reagen Pender (800) and Katie Guelcher (1600). Jim Thorpe’s Debbie Loyd took second in the pole vault.

Stauffenberg captured the long jump and finished second in the triple jump to lead the Blue Raider boys. Stianche broke the tape in the 400. Tamaqua also benefitted from second-place finishes by Matt Kistler (100, 200), Christopher Osenbach (800) and Pierce Demetriades (pole vault).

The Olympians received two firsts from Jarrin Geisinger (100, 200) and one from Samuel Hydro (800). William Munson took second in two events (shot put, discus). Northern Lehigh also had a first-place showing from Zach Moyer in the high jump.

Pen Argyl-Northwestern

Connor Snyder hit a grand slam to help Northwestern roll to an 11-1 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

The win was the ninth in a row for the Tigers, who improved to 16-2 overall and 14-1 in the league.

Derek Holmes added three hits and an RBI, while Nate Goodolf added two hits. The winners also received a hit and two RBIs from Brandon Mengel and a hit and two runs from Rafe Perich.

Justin Holmes allowed one run and five hits in four innings to earn the victory.

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

A big sixth inning helped Jim Thorpe post a 9-4 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

The Olympians (8-9) rallied for five runs with two outs to snap a 4-4 tie. Ian Hubbard smacked a two-out, two run home run to put Thorpe ahead. Jake Schwartz added two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs, while Jared Joyce Joyce went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double.

Cody Hamm was 3-for-3 for the Raiders (4-15), and Brayden Knoblauch added two hits.

Wilson-Northern Lehigh

Two runs score on Daulton Lorrah’s sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning to give Northern Lehigh a 9-8 Colonial League walk-off win over Wilson.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh and the Bulldogs down by a run, Caleb Wanamker reaches on an error and Alec Berger walks. The runners move up on a passed ball before Lorrah’s bunt allows both the tying and winning runs to score.

Aaron Rudolph finishes with three hits, one a double, a run and an RBI for Nolehi (5-12; 3-11), while Wanamaker added a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Luke Eitner chipped in with a hit and a pair of runs.

Pine Grove pounded out 15 hits in a 13-4 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

David Berger had two singles for the Indians (3-14), who led 4-3 after the third inning.

Emily Akelaitis threw a five-inning no-hitter to lead Northwestern to a 10-0 Colonial League win over Pen Argyl.

Akelaitis walked two and struck out four.

Brynn Balliet belted a grand slam, while Ashley Sisco also homered for the Tigers (15-3; 13-2).

Sisco, Molly Mitman, Akelaitis and Natasha Farmer all had two hits. Mitman had a triple and two runs.

Tamaqua clinched a District 11 playoff berth with a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Jada Schellhammer was a force at the plate and in the circle for the Raiders (10-7, 7-5). Schellhammer was perfect in three frames, striking out six, and also collected three singles, driving in four and scoring three runs. Ally Frederick added three hits (three runs scored, three RBIs), and Jane Kupchinsky collected two hits (two runs scored, two RBIs).

Pine Grove used a huge fourth inning to take control before pulling away for a 16-3 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Cierra Kunkle had a triple among her two hits for the Indians (6-11, 3-8). Kendra Peterman added a double, and Alexis Scott an RBI and two runs scored.
