Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 23

Three area soccer teams posted one-goal victories on Monday.

The Lehighton girls, as well as the Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua boys all recorded narrow wins.

In other scholastic action, Marian and Panther Valley both posted volleyball wins.

GIRLS SOCCER

Catasauqua-Lehighton

Brittney Batasavage’s goal off a corner in overtime lifted Lehighton to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Catasauqua.

The Indians’ Ashley Marchessault recorded the game’s first goal off an assist from Casey Hanley. Katie Aaron assisted on the game-winning goal.

Keeper Alyssa Myers finished with 13 saves for Lehighton (4-6).

BOYS SOCCER

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Brian Milot’s unassisted goal in the second half was all Tamaqua needed to secure a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over Blue Mountain.

The Eagles held a 12-4 edge in shots and had a 10-5 margin in corners.

Keeper Nathaniel Noftz grabbed four saves for the Blue Raiders (5-5; 3-4).

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Thor Huth’s first-half goal allowed Jim Thorpe to post a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Alex Putt assisted on Huth’s tally, allowing the Olympians to improve to 8-1-1 overall and 6-1 in the league.

Thorpe keeper Jacob Geiser came up with the shutout win.

Freedom-Pleasant Valley

Three different players scored as Freedom posted a 3-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Tyler Snow tallied in the first half for the Patriots, while Sebastian Ramirez and Tye Roemersmu added second-half goals.

Bears keeper Christopher Price finished with 14 saves.

Notre Dame-Palmerton

Palmerton dropped a 5-2 Colonial League decision to Notre Dame.

Connor Russo and Zach Brotzman scored goals for the Blue Bombers, while Nic Singleton added an assist.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove scored a goal in each half to lift the Cardinals to a 2-0 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Mitchell Lesh assisted on Pine Grove’s first goal and added an insurance tally later.

The Indians (2-8; 1-6) were outshot by a 14-3 margin.

Weatherly-Lourdes

Weatherly rolled to a 6-1 Schuylkill League victory over Lourdes.

VOLLEYBALL

Pleasant Valley-Emmaus

Emmaus got the best of Pleasant Valley for a 25-20, 25-11, 25-19 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Cameron Caffrey paced the Bears with seven assists, seven digs, one ace, one kill and one block, while Andrea Crilley contributed six digs, three kills and two assists.

PV slips to 7-4-2 overall (6-3 in EPC).

Marian-North Schuylkill

Marian defeated North Schuylkill for a 25-18, 25-11, 25-16 Schuylkill League win.

Ashlyn Klitsch sparked the Fillies’ attack with 26 assists, three aces and two digs, while Alivia Karchner added 12 kills and three digs.

Tamaqua-Panther Valley

Panther Valley rolled to a 25-7, 25-7, 25-4 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

Erika Dubosky led the Panthers with 14 aces, one kill and one block, while Lydda Malaska chipped in with five aces and three kills.

Blue Mtn.-Jim Thorpe

Blue Mountain knocked off Jim Thorpe for a 25-21, 25-20, 25-12 Schuylkill League victory.

Brandy Montemuro paced the Olympians’ attack with eight kills, seven digs and five assists, while Andi Hoherchak finished with eight assists and seven digs.

Millersburg-Weatherly

Millersburg cruised to a 25-10, 25-8, 25-8 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Ashley James had 11 digs for the Wreckers.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove earned a 25-15, 25-17, 26-24 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Sophia Salerno finished with 16 digs for the Indians, while Alyssa Frey chipped in with 15 assists.

Teammates Alexis Solomon (six kills, two blocks) and Hailey Miller (three aces) also contributed.

FIELD HOCKEY

N’western-Moravian Ac.

Moravian Academy edged Northwestern for a 2-1 Colonial League win.

Lauren Schellhamer posted the only goal for the Tigers (7-3-1).

Nikki Chiaradia led the Lions with a goal and an assist, while Cassie Romanczuk also scored.

Palmerton-Saucon Valley

Salome Carr’s two goals sparked Saucon Valley to a 4-1 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Panthers also received goals from Katie Marker and Kerry Lannon.

Megan Serfass tallied for the Blue Bombers (4-7), while keeper Shannon Dougherty made six saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg posted a 5-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Rebecca Malorides had a win at No. 3 singles for the Bears, while Julia Polak and Kara Thourot paired up to score a victory at No. 2 doubles.

EPC Tournament

Michelle Cox of Emmaus turned in the day’s lowest score, firing a 74 at the Eastern Pennsylvania Golf Championships at Olde Homestead.

Northampton’s Nate Wheeler had the best score among the boys, finishing with a 75 and winning on a playoff hole against Emmaus’ Aiden LeBlanc.

Pleasant Valley’s Steven Ottman placed 36th among the boys with a 98. The Bears’ Mary Scully shot a 102 and finished fifth among the girls.

Emmaus won the team title with a combined 310 score. Liberty was second at 322.
