Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 30
The Jim Thorpe boys and girls soccer teams both posted victories on Monday.
Pleasant Valley’s boys soccer team also picked up a win, while Tamaqua posted victories in volleyball and girls soccer action.
Elsewhere, the Northwestern and Northern Lehigh field hockey teams, along with the Lehighton and Panther Valley volleyball teams, also gained wins.
BOYS SOCCER
Pleasant Valley-ES North
Jason Kapsis’ two goals highlighted Pleasant Valley’s 4-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.
Onious George and Lazaro Garcia also scored for the Bears, while Damian Sopanki was credited with three assists.
No. Lehigh-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe cruised to a 7-2 non-league win over Northern Lehigh.
Leandro Ramirez scored twice for the Olympians, while Chris Condly, Andrea Mazzella, Jack Morris, Jordan Waslesyn and Thor Huth also found the back of the net. Morris added three assists, and Jacob Geiser made seven saves.
Josh Stollard and Bryce Lopinto scored in the second half for the Bulldogs.
Lehighton-Minersville
Lehighton and Minersville ended in a 1-1 Schuylkill League tie.
Nick Zeigenfuss recorded the Indians’ goal. Alex Lohin scored for the Battlin’ Miners.
Randy Bongiorno finished with four saves for the Indians. Koda Whalen made 17 saves for Minersville.
FIELD HOCKEY
Saucon Vy.-Northwestern
Northwestern blanked Saucon Valley for a 3-0 Colonial League victory.
Reagan Hernandez led the Tigers’ attack with two goals, while Brynn Balliet also scored.
Brooke Page, Lauren Schellhamer and Tess Ledeboer recorded assists.
No. Lehigh-Catasauqua
Four different players scored as Northern Lehigh topped Catasauqua 4-0 in Colonial League play.
Hailey Evans, Brooke Nonnemacher, Lily Wanamaker and Sage Kamorka accounted for the Bulldogs’ scores.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Lehighton
Nicole Carroll’s first-half goal was all Jim Thorpe needed to secure a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.
Kate Bos grabbed five saves to post the shutout for the Olympians.
Alyssa Myers finished with 17 saves for the Indians.
North Schuylkill-Tamaqua
Two first-half goals propelled Tamaqua to a 2-0 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.
Rebekah Hromyak sparked the Blue Raiders with a goal and an assist. Emma Kuczynski also scored.
Baylee Reinhardt recorded three saves in the shutout.
Minersville-Weatherly
Minersville rolled to an 8-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.
Grace LaPoint netted a hat trick for the Battlin’ Miners, while Rachel Zula chipped in with two goals.
Kelly Royer finished with six saves for the Wreckers.
VOLLEYBALL
Lehighton-Palmerton
Lehighton swept Palmerton for a 25-10, 25-15, 25-17 non-league win.
Sophia Salerno led the Indians with 11 digs, eights kills and one ace, while Allison Reph finished with 10 digs, five aces and one kill.
Hailey Miller (eight digs, seven kills) also contributed in the Tribe victory.
Panther Vy.-Saucon Vy.
Panther Valley posted a 25-14, 25-15, 17-25, 25-16 non-league victory over Saucon Valley.
Jenna Dubosky led the Panthers with 20 assists, 16 kills and four digs, while Erika Dubosky added 11 kills, seven digs and four aces.
Olivia Dacey added 13 kills and two aces for PV.
Catasauqua-Tamaqua
Tamaqua topped Catasauqua 25-18, 25-8, 25-15 for a non-league win.
Brynn Gigli paced the Blue Raiders with six assists, five aces, three kills and one dig, while Ember Starr recorded seven aces and four digs.
Kaydee Romig (seven kills, three aces) and Madison Baddick (six aces, three kills, one dig) also played well for Tamaqua.
JR. HIGH BASKETBALL
N. Schuylkill-Weatherly
North Schuylkill knocked off Weatherly, 49-12.
Haley Koutch finished with 15 points for the Spartans.
Taylor Davidovich led the Wreckers with six points.
8th Grade
Panther Vy.-Jim Thorpe
Panther Valley defeated Jim Thorpe, 35-17.
Maddison Maynard led the Panthers with 13 points, while Mikayala Yuricheck followed with eight.
Ginopolas finished with 10 points to lead the Olympians.

Panther Valley recorded a 27-17 victory over Jim Thorpe.
