Marian’s baseball and softball teams both posted shutouts in action Friday.

The Fillies blanked Panther Valley, while the Colts stopped Jim Thorpe.

SOFTBALL

Panther Vy.-Marian

Lyndsey Reinoehl fired a two-hit shutout to lead Marian to a 10-0 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Both teams had entered the game unbeaten in league play, but the Fillies rode the pitching and hitting of Reinoehl to a mercy-rule win.

Offensively, Reinoehl went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Reese Erbe added two doubles and three RBIs for the Fillies and Mia Nemeth had two hits, two walks and two RBIs.

Megan Pascoe had a triple for Panther Valley.

BASEBALL

Marian-Jim Thorpe

Marian’s Ryan Cappel pitched five scoreless innings and combined with two relievers to register a shutout in the Colts’ 2-0 non-league victory over Jim Thorpe.

Cappel allowed just four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Nick Goff and Adam Keslicka, who earned the save, each tossed a scoreless inning.

The winning pitcher also collected two hits at the plate, one a double, while Dante Agosti added a triple and run scored.

For the Olympians, Evan Dart had two hits.

Tamaqua-Tri-Valley

Tri-Valley scored the winning run on a balk in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Tamaqua, 1-0, in a non-league game.

The Raiders’ Casey Rother and Tri-Valley’s Brayden Smith were locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel in the seventh. But Rother reached his PIAA-mandated 100-pitch limit with two outs in the seventh and had to be pulled from the mound.

Isiah Kupchinsky relieved and struck out Chase Herb, but a wild pitch on the third strike allowed Herb to reach first. Dawson Schwab singled Herb to third, and when Schwab attempted to steal second, Kupchinsky was called for a balk, allowing the winning run to score.

Rother struck out eight while allowing just four hits and one walk.

Kupchinsky had two hits for the Raiders (3-3).

Palisades-No. Lehigh

Matt McGrath pitched a complete game, striking out six, and contributed three hits and an RBI on offense to lead Palisades to a 10-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

For the Bulldogs, Luke Eitner finished 2-for-3.

Salisbury-Palmerton

Salisbury posted a 9-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton. No other information was received by the Times News.

Palmerton-Palisades

Palisades won two of the three singles matches to help gain a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Mattis Willuhn, at No. 2 singles, posted a straight-set win for the Bombers.

In Palmerton’s second match of the day, the Blue Bombers singles players all registered pro-set wins to lead the team to a 5-0 Colonial League win over Pen Argyl.

Posting the singles wins were Nate Andress, Mattis Willuhn, and Marc Roselli.

Pleasant Vy.-Freedom

Josh Schaffner and Jake Ammermann both won in singles play and teamed up for a victory in doubles to help Pleasant Valley shut out Freedom, 7-0, in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

PV also got a singles win from Najja Francis.

Jim Thorpe’s Matt Widdicombe earned a win at No. 3 singles, but that was the only bright spot for the Olympians in a 4-1 loss to Pocono Mountain West.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Crestwood-Pleasant Vy.

Juliana Lopez scored seven goals, including the 100th of her career, and had two assists to help Pleasant Valley roll to a 20-8 victory over Crestwood.

It was also a memorable game for Alyssa Grieco, who reached the 100-point plateau. Grieco had five goals and two assists for the Bears.

PV also received five goals and two assists from Savannah Bauman, while Alyssa Lopez added three goals and four assists.

The tandem of Danni Reino and Adriana Picca combined for five goalie saves.
