Northwestern posted baseball and softball victories on Saturday.

BASEBALL

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Northwestern rolled to a 14-0 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

The Tigers continued to get excellent pitching as Drew White went the distance in the five-inning, mercy-rule shortened game. White tossed a three-hitter and struck out four.

Offensively for the Tigers, Nathan Goodolf and Derek Homes both finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles. Rafe Perich was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Brandon Mengel was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

LLA-Lehighton

Lehighton benefited from eight walks in the first inning to build a big lead and went on to defeat Lincoln Leadership Academy, 16-1, in a non-league game.

Michael Bozilesky picked up the mound win with a two-hitter for the Indians.

Bozilesky also had a strong game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Randy Bongiorno added two hits and an RBI.

Northampton-Pleasant V.

Pleasant Valley used a big third-inning to defeat Northampton, 7-6, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game.

The Bears, who scored six times in the third, were led by Colin Stivala who had a single, two RBIs and a run scored. Nick Ciszak and Danny McEvoy both added a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Dallas Greenzweig knocked in two runs.

Northwest-Marian

Marian used two big innings to take this five-frame, 11-1 non-league decision.

Alex Kubishin led the Colts with a double, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Max Nolter had a RBI-double, Brandon Cann had a RBI-double and scored twice, while Mason Miller had a two-run single.

Hunter Fristick went the distance to gain the pitching victory. He struck out three and allowed just three hits.

Tamaqua-Dieruff

Matt Minchhoff belted a pair of home runs to lead Tamaqua to an 11-3 non-league victory over Dieruff.

Minchhoff finished the game with three hits and four RBIs for the Raiders.

Boyle and Fannock both added extrabase hits for Tamaqua (4-3).

The Raiders’ Brayden Knoblauch blanked Dieruff through the first five innings and got the pitching win.

SOFTBALL

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Northwestern pulled away from Colonial League foe Saucon Valley for a 10-1 decision.

Anna Akelaitis finished the day 4-for-5 at the plate, with three RBIs to lead the Tigers. Ashley Sisco was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

For the Lady Panthers, Rachel Schoch was 2-for-2 with a double.

Northampton-Pleasant Vy.

Northampton used some power hitting to take out Pleasant Valley, 16-4, in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Madison Fraley led the K-Kids, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run. Hannah Boggs added a three-run shot in the third.

For the Bears, Meara Hanyon was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a RB. Tyler Woltal and Morgan Frantz both had RBI singles.

LLAPanther Valley

Panther Valley scored early and often to post a 15-4 non-league victory Lincoln Leadership Academy in four innings.

Claire Kokinda drilled a three-run homer for the winners, and also added a triple as she finished the day with four RBIs. Sydney Clouser had a triple and a single for the Panthers.

Whitehall held off Tamaqua for a 6-4 non-league win.

The Zephyrs got a strong game from Arner, who finished 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

For the Blue Raiders, Maxine Beers was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Courtney Hoffman and Kaitlyn Stauffenberg both added two hits and a run scored.

Jim Thorpe-NDES

Jim Thorpe struggled to get its offense going, dropping an 18-1 non-league decision to Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

Despite the loss, the Olympians’ Trista Gehris had six strikeouts on the mound.

TENNIS

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe swept the three singles matches in both of their matches against Pottsville in a Saturday double-header, to pick up two team wins, both by the score of 3-2.

John Fedora, Emilio Mercado and Matt Widdicombe all took both of their matches against their opponents in straight sets.

With the pair of wins, the Olympians stand at 5-6 on the season.

Palmerton dropped a Colonial League outing to Saucon Valley, 4-1.

Picking up the sole win for the locals was their number three singles player, Marc Roselli, who battled in a decisive tiebreaker, to prevent the team shutout.
