The Tamaqua boys basketball team picked up another win on Tuesday to stay undefeated.

The Pleasant Valley girls basketball team also was victorious.

BOYS BASKETBALL

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

Tamaqua opened league play with a 58-53 Schuylkill League Division I victory over North Schuylkill.

Derian Stianche had 13 points to pace the Blue Raiders, who improved to 5-0 overall.

Lucas Gregoire added 11 points, while Casey Rother tallied 10. Thad Zuber chipped in with eight points.

The Spartans received a game-high 14 points from Pete Kotzo.

Tamaqua also won the JV game, 57-47.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Ian Renninger scored 16 points to lead Pottsville to a 48-38 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Jim Thorpe.

For the Olympians, Chris Valdez and Justin Marykwas had team-high honors with 10 points.

Thorpe, which also lost the JV game 46-30, drops to 2-2 overall.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove rallied for a 40-33 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over visiting Lehighton.

The Cardinals, led by Jake Leininger’s 12 points, trailed by five points entering the fourth quarter, but used a 19-7 final frame to gain the victory.

Addison Howland tallied 11 points to pace the Indians (1-3; 0-1), while TaQuan Bradley-Chambers chipped in with seven.

In the JV game, Pine Grove claimed a 32-20 win.

Alexa Clark led the Bears (3-2) with 10 points. Masani Francis added eight.

Matt Lalik and Kyle Kralik registered pins for Palmerton, but Pen Argyl was able to gain a 47-28 Colonial League victory.

Tamaqua split its swim meet with visiting Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders won in girls action by a 119-52 score, while the Tide boys captured a 128-51 victory.

In the girls meet, Lexi Kerstetter (200 free, 100 back) and Madelyn Jones (500 free, 100 breast) both won two events. Other winners included Tressa Barron (diving), Brianna Dumond (100 fly), and Kayla Sherry (100 free).

For the Raider boys, Billy Shilko won the diving event.
