The Northwestern field hockey team picked up a win over Palmerton on Thursday.

In volleyball action, Marian and Panther Valley remained undefeated, while Lehighton edged Tamaqua.

The Tamaqua boys and girls soccer teams also picked up wins.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Northwestern

Northwestern edged Palmerton 2-1 in a Colonial League contest.

Danielle Schmidt scored on an assist from Leighanna Lister to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first half.

Sydney Derr scored in the second half on an assist from Rachel Koerner.

Paige Frantz added a second- half goal for the Blue Bombers. Abby Everett had the assist.

Northwestern improves to 7-6-1 in league play, while Palmerton drops to 3-10

So. Lehigh-No. Lehigh

Meghan Reese scored four goals and Southern Lehigh posted a 7-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Bryan Hughes also scored twice for the Spartans, who held a 13-1 edge in penalty corners.

Tia Horack made 14 saves for the Bulldogs, now 8-6 in league action.

BOYS SOCCER

Northern Lehigh-Tamaqua

Tamaqua picked up an 8-4 non-league win against Northern Lehigh.

Derian Stianche and Jacob Rudy scored two goals apiece for the Raiders, who led 6-1 at halftime. Rudy added an assist.

Josh Sollars scored twice in the second half to complete the hat trick for the Bulldogs. Sollars also assisted on Quinton Mack’s goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

Emma Kuczynski’s hat trick propelled Tamaqua to a 5-1 Schuylkill League Division I victory over North Schuylkill.

Katelyn Rudy scored and added an assist, while freshman Caitlin Smith recorded her first varsity goal to finish the scoring for the Raiders (6-8-1). Flo Rios had five saves.

Tamaqua also won the JV game, 4-0.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Pottsville jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 4-1 Schuylkill League Division I win against Jim Thorpe.

Catie Coyle scored twice in the first half as the Tide built a 3-1 advantage by intermission. Sandy Day scored once in each half.

Jackie Condly scored on a penalty kick for the Olympians, while Monae Bullock made 24 saves.

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Pine Grove rolled to a 4-0 win against Lehighton in Schuylkill League Division I action.

Rachel Edge scored twice as the Cardinals built a 3-0 halftime lead. Rachel Frew and Mariah Lesh also found the back of the net, while Sierra Blough stopped 10 shots to preserve the shutout.

Julia Frey made 14 saves for the Indians.

Notre Dame GP-Palmerton

Abby Wachter’s two goals lifted Notre Dame GP to a 2-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Carissa Fallon scored for the Blue Bombers.

VOLLEYBALL

Marian-Mahanoy Area

Marian stayed unbeaten with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-21 Schuylkill League Division IV win over Mahanoy Area.

Carly Kosciolek had nine kills, four digs and four aces for the Fillies. Jasmine Mooney contributed 10 digs, seven kills and one ace. Gianna Agosti had 26 assists, six digs and two kills. Toni Galasso had 15 digs and three aces, and Macie Mazalusky chipped in seven kills and two digs.

Panther Valley-Lourdes

Panther Valley remained undefeated with a 25-11, 25-7, 25-7 Schuylkill League Division II win over Lourdes Regional.

Erika Dubosky had 11 kills, five digs, one block and 12 service points for the Panthers. Olivia Dacey had six kills, four aces and seven service points. Rachelle Filer tallied six kills and three blocks. Christina Dacey added 10 digs and 10 service points. Jenna Dubosky recorded 11 assists.

Panther Valley also won the JV match, 2-0.

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton knocked off Tamaqua 25-16, 25-27, 25-20, 25-16 in Schuylkill League Division I play.

Emily Haberman had 40 assists and eight digs for the Indians (10-7, 4-6), who qualified for districts with the win. Vanessa Ahner added 12 digs and 10 kills, while Lillian Brown recorded 20 digs and Sarah Bradley tallied 11 digs and three aces. Emily Miller contributed 17 kills.

Emily Amershek had seven kills, seven digs and one ace for the Raiders. Ella McLaughlin chipped in with 18 digs and one ace, and Kaitlyn Stauffenberg added 10 assists and two aces.

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Pottsville handed Jim Thorpe a 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 25-15 setback in Schuylkill League Division I play.

Kelsey Carroll had 25 digs, 13 assists, eight kills and seven aces for the Olympians. Alex McGinley recorded 27 digs and four kills, while Brandy Montemuro added 12 digs and Emma Dunbar chipped in with 11.

Pottsville won the JV match, 2-0.

Northwestern-N. Dame GP

Notre Dame GP swept Northwestern 25-20, 25-16, 28-26 in a Colonial League match.

No other information was provided to the Times News.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Pottsville picked up two wins against Tamaqua.

The Tide won the A game, 53-18. Goodman led Pottsville with 16 points. Wingler scored nine points to pace the Raiders.

In the B game, the Tide posted a 32-15 victory. Robb had 11 points for the Raiders to lead all scorers.
