Lehighton picked victories in both boys and girls soccer on Saturday.

BOYS SOCCER

PM East-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley defeated Pocono Mountain East in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action, 1-0.

Ryan Wolff scored what proved to be the game’s only goal in the second half for the Bears.

Both teams’ defenses shone, as the Bears held a slim 5-1 edge in shots on goal, with Noah Neubert stopping the one attempt for the shutout.

Lehighton-No. Lehigh

Lehighton picked up a 3-0 shutout win over Northern Lehigh in a non-league game.

Matt Pettit-Clair scored two goals for the Tribe, while Connor Hanley added the other. Luke Hoffner and Logan Lucas both had assists in the winning effort.

The Indians held a 13-3 edge in shots on goal, as Northern Lehigh’s Wes Delans stopped 10 in the loss, with his counterpart Zach Andrews stopping all three in the shutout.

Williams Valley-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe continued its hot streak with another win, this one a 2-1 comeback victory over Williams Valley.

Colton Rieback scored a first half goal off a feed from Josiah Suliday to get the Vikings out to an early lead.

However, Ryder Wallace scored twice in the second half to eventually get his team the victory. Preston Lawrence and Alex Mierzejewski both had assists for the Olympians.

Kingsley Ehling managed 17 saves in goal for the Olympians.

Palmerton-Pine Grove

Following a scoreless first half, Pine Grove erupted for four goals in the second session to post a 4-0 non-league win over Palmerton.

Alex Witmer put in a pair of scores, Jeremy Weaver had a goal and an assist, while Jason Soper tallied the Cardinals’ other score.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain took the early lead and went on to post a 7-1 victory over Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action.

Samantha Puzzi recorded a first-half hat trick to lead the Eagles in scoring.

Sophia Boyle’s score off a Katelyn Rudy assist in the first half kept things interesting, before the winners pulled away.

Blue Mountain held an 18-7 edge in shots. The Lady Raiders’ Flo Rios had 11 saves.

 

Jim Thorpe-Lehighton

Lehighton scored three goals in each half to defeat Jim Thorpe 6-0.

Thera Hibbler recorded a hat trick courtesy of penalty kicks, while Aubrey Blasiak scored twice and Kelsey Gaston added another.

Julia Frey totaled 11 saves in goal for the Tribe in the shutout.

Palmerton-William Allen

Palmerton picked up a 6-1 non-league win over William Allen.

Star James scored the sole goal for the Canaries.

Nativity-Weatherly

Nativity recorded a pair of goals in each half of play to defeat Weatherly, 4-0.

Camilla Koury scored twice, while Mikaela Tobash and Tori Hunyara both added individual scores for the winners.

Nativity held a 13-3 edge in shots on goal.

FIELD HOCKEY

Stroudsburg-Lehighton

Despite holding a 1-0 lead at the break, Lehighton fell to Stroudsburg, 2-1.

In the final 20 seconds, the Lady Mounties managed to break a 1-1 tie.

With the loss, the Lady Indians fall to 8-4 on the season.

Palmerton-NDES

Palmerton came alive in the second half of this non-league battle to defeat Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 4-0.

Emily Baumgardt scored twice for the Bombers (4-8), while Jillian Frank had a goal and an assist, and Emily Butz added the other score.

VOLLEYBALL

Lehighton-PM East

Pocono Mountain East proved to be too much for Lehighton, as it took a straight-set win, 25-13, 25-16, 25-21.

Despite the loss, the Tribe saw Isabelle Meckes gather eight kills and Sydney Vincent add five kills. Samantha Banning also had a nice game, finishing with 16 digs.

Lehighton prevailed in the JV contest, 2-1.

Northwestern-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley notched a straight-set non-league win over Northwestern, 25-14, 25-17, 25-7.

The Panthers (11-0) were led by Erika Dubosky who had 12 kills, eight service points and six aces. Olivia Dacey added eight kills and five digs; Jenna Dubosky had four kills, five assists, 15 service points and six aces; and Sydney Clauser had 13 digs.

Pleasant Valley

in So. Lehigh Tournament

Pleasant Valley participated in the 12-team Southern Lehigh Tournament, advancing to the playoff round before being eliminated.

In pool play, the Bears split their opener with Governor Mifflin (25-27, 25-23); lost two to Brandywine Heights (15-25, 18-25), and then swept Notre Dame (25-20, 25-20). Pleasant Valley’s 3-3 record put it in a tie for second place in its pool, forcing a one set playoff against Governor Mifflin, which the Bears won, 15-5.

In the playoff round, Fleetwood eliminated Pleasant Valley in the quarterfinals, 25-21.

Northampton eventually captured the tournament championship by defeating Southern Lehigh.

Renee Mapa had team-high totals of 31 kills and 15 blocks to lead the Bears. Katie Frankunas added 22 kills and Arianna Weaver had 15 kills. Defensively, Cameron Caffrey had 22 digs, Deslyn Beade had 11 digs, Brooke Spanburg had 10, Summer Karaman had nine , Frankunas and Weaver chipped in eight apiece, and Kacey Robinson added seven. Caffrey finished with 45 assists.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

8TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Pine Grove edged Tamaqua, 32-30.

Serena Jones had 10 points and eight rebounds for Tamaqua. Zoe Seltzer added 10 points and six rebounds.
