Tamaqua gained wins in both baseball and softball on Thursday.

The Blue Raiders baseball team needed 12 innings to edge Pottsville, while the softball squad remained undefeated by shutting out the Crimson Tide.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Nate Boyle drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning and Tamaqua edged Pottsville 3-1 in Schuylkill League Division 1 play.

Boyle doubled to score Michael Bonetsky and put the Blue Raiders up 2-1. Thad Zuber singled to score Boyle for an insurance run. Zuber finished 2-for-6 while striking out six without allowing a walk. Boyle pitched five strong innings of relief, striking out three and allowing just two hits and two walks.

Brady Moyer had an RBI single in the sixth for Tamaqua, and Casey Rother added two hits, including a double.

Weatherly-Marian

Marian stayed unbeaten in Schuylkill League Division 3 play with a 14-4 win over Weatherly.

Max Nolter went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored for the Colts (4-0). Ryan Cappel added three hits, two RBIs and scored three times. Aaron Mason also had three hits and scored three runs, while Brandon Cann added two hits and three RBIs.

Jermey Moser had two hits for the Wreckers (1-2).

Salisbury-N’western

Northwestern outlasted Salisbury for a 15-10 Colonial League victory.

Tyler Wiik (3-for-5, home run) and Rafe Perich (2-for-3, two doubles, four RBIs) paced the Tigers’ (7-1) attack.

Mason Vogwill had seven strikeouts, and went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs in the win.

Palmerton topped Southern Lehigh 1-0 in nine innings for a Colonial League victory.

Pleasant Valley-Easton

Easton coasted to an 11-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley in five innings.

Cam Hubbard was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Red Rovers, who led 7-0 after two innings. Luke Storm added a grand slam.

Brent Beck had the Bears’ only hit.

Brandon Rockwell allowed just one hit to lead North Schuylkill to a 15-0 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over Lehighton.

Rockwell finished with 11 strikeouts while also adding a double and scoring three runs.

Jake Green (double, two RBIs) and Zack Stokes (double, RBI, three runs scored) added two hits apiece for the Spartans.

Shenandoah Vy.

Shenandoah Valley rallied for a 7-5 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

The Panthers (3-3; 1-3) held a 4-1 lead after four innings before the Blue Devils posted their comeback win.

A three-run homer by Will Conroy helped lead Shenandoah.

Brad Buzzard had two doubles and a single for PV, while Mason Goida and Jon Hafer each knocked in a pair of runs.

SOFTBALL

Panther Valley-

Shenandoah Valley

Panther Valley posted a doubleheader sweep of Shenandoah Valley.

The Panthers rolled to a 16-0 victory in their Schuylkill League contest, and then roared to a 14-4 non-league decision.

Megan Pascoe tossed a two-hitter in the opener and also contributed two hits at the plate. PV also received a couple hits from Abby Hoben.

In the second contest, Alyssa Navarro had three singles for the Panthers. Lydia Malaska added a single and a double, while Sydney Clouser and Kristen Nunemacher had two singles apiece.

Panther Valley is now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Tamaqua cruised to a 14-0 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Pottsville.

Brooke Zellner was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Jen Frederickson added three singles, scored three times and drove in a run for the Blue Raiders, who erupted for 12 runs in the top of the fifth inning to break open a two-run game.

Miranda Chinchar, Kaitlyn Stauffenberg and Maxine Beers all added two hits for Tamaqua (6-0; 4-0).

Jada Schellhammer struck out five and allowed just two hits and one walk in five innings to earn the win.

North Schuylkill topped Lehighton 4-1 in a Schuylkill League Division 1 contest.

Haley Burd was strong in the circle for the Spartans, striking out 11, while teammates Joslin Sitzer and Schuyler Ossman had two hits apiece.

Rachel Serfass had a triple for the Indians. Heidi Greene added a double.

Salisbury used a big sixth inning to secure an 8-3 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Hannah Lipkin (3-for-4, double, RBI) and Lilia Crouthamel (2-for-4, double, three runs scored) sparked the Falcons, who broke open a tie game with five runs in the top of the sixth.

Ashley Sisco was 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Tigers. Emily Akelaitis struck out nine and also smacked a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Easton posted a 12-4 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Zariah Alvin (two RBIs), Lina Ramos (two RBIs), Courtney Grundhauser (two RBIs), Gillian Walsh (one RBI) and Mackenzie Keegan all had two hits for the Red Rovers.

Morgan Frantz was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Bears. Madison Rosenberg was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Blue Bombers won both matches 4-1.

Tyler Steigerwalt and Nate Petit-Clair were victorious in doubles action in both matches for the Indians.

Freedom beat Pleasant Valley in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game

The Patriots’ Colin Harms and Josh Benak each scored four goals and assisted on one in the win, while teammate Max Stevens had a pair of goals and three assists. Krystian Szemakio made four saves in the win.

The Bears were led by Donald Miller (two goals, one assist) and Samir Hoxha (two goals). Goal keepers Tucker Anglemeyer and Batstone combined for 12 saves in the loss.
