Panther Valley’s baseball team and Northwestern’s softball squad both posted walk-off wins on Friday.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Logan Pagotto had two hits, an RBI and run scored to help Lehighton earn a 4-3 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Noah Sensinger gained the pitching win for the Indians (4-5; 1-4) while Sean Heery picked up the save.

For the Blue Raiders (4-4; 2-2), Michael Minchhoff finished the contest with two hits, one a double, and a run scored, while Brayden Knoblauch also had a pair of hits.

Tri-Valley-Panther Vy.

Tristan Blasko belted a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Panther Valley a dramatic 4-3 Schuylkill League victory over Tri-Valley.

Brad Buzzard led off the Panther seventh with a single. One out later, Blasko jumped on the first pitch he saw from Tri-Valley pitcher Willie Kimmel and drilled the ball over the left-center field fence.

Buzzard finished with two hits for the Panthers (4-4, 2-4). Mason Goida added a two-run double in the second inning.

Goida worked six innings on the mound, striking out five.

Pleasant Vy.-Dieruff

An eight-run third inning lifted Pleasant Valley to a 9-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Dieruff.

The Bears (6-3, 5-2) sent 12 batters to the plate in the third, combining three singles, three walks, a hit batsman, and an error to do their damage. They also stole five bases in the inning.

Danny McEvoy had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored to lead Pleasant Valley offensively. Brent Beck and Brandon Ratti both had two RBIs and a run scored while James Gehr scored a pair of runs.

Colin Stivala allowed just one run in five-and-two-thirds innings to pick up the pitching win. He struck out five.

Notre Dame-Northwestern

In a battle of Colonial League powerhouses, Notre Dame pulled out an 8-5 victory over Northwestern.

Shane Beyer had four hits to lead the Notre Dame (9-1, 8-1) attack.

For the Tigers (9-2, 8-2), Rafe Perich had a single and a double.

Williams Valley-Marian

Williams Valley rebounded from an early deficit to post a 12-5 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

The Colts received three hits, one a double, and two RBIs from Brandon Cann, while Max Nolter added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Chris Latoff chipped in with a hit and RBI.

SOFTBALL

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

Palmerton edged Northern Lehigh, 3-1, in a Colonial League game.

Pat Shupp had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Bombers (6-4, 6-4). Paige Frantz added a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

The Bulldogs fall to 9-2 overall and 8-2 in the league.

Notre Dame-Northwestern

Ashley Sisco hit a two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Northwestern rally for a 5-4 Colonial League victory over Notre Dame.

The Tigers (7-5; 7-3) trailed by three runs heading into the final frame, but came through with four runs to gain the win.

Sisco finished with three hits, while winning pitcher Emily Akelaitis added two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Akelaitis came on in relief and tossed four innings of one-hit ball, striking out eight. Northwestern also received a pair of hits and a run from Gina Marazzo.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Pine Grove no-hit Jim Thorpe and rolled to a 23-0 Schuylkill League win.

TRACK AND FIELD

Jim Thorpe Invitational

Several area athletes had big performances at the Jim Thorpe Invitational.

The Olympians crowned four individual champions. Lydia Wallace won the 400 (1:01.56), while Jarrin Geissinger was first in 100 (11.31), William Munson won the shot put (44-07.50) and Jason Scott placed first in discus (139-08).

Northern Lehigh’s Robert Shoff was first in triple jump (42-02.0) and third in high jump (5-8). Tamaqua’s Pierce Demetriades won the pole vault (12-0).

Jim Thorpe’s Emma Dunbar had a solid night, placing second in the 100 (13.28) and 200 (27.07).

Northern Lehigh’s Jill Olewine finished second in the long jump (15-11.00) and third triple jump (32-02.75).

Tamaqua’s Shanna Brinkworth placed second in the pole vault (9-6), while JT’s Debbie Loyd was third (8-6) in the event.

Tamaqua’s Alyssa Campomizzi was second in the javelin (114-05).

Tamaqua’s Barron Stauffenberg was second in the long jump (19-02.0) and teammate Matthew Amodea was second in shot put (40-08.00). Khalid Holland picked up a third-place finish in the pole vault (11-6) for the Blue Raiders.

Jim Thorpe’s Sam Hydro ran to third place finishes in the 1600 (4:41.46) and 3200 (10:22.53), as did

Tamaqua’s Sarah Maue in the 1600 (5:38.58) and 3200 (12:31.72).

Northern Lehigh’s Franki Dibilio placed third in shot put (33-06.00), and JT’s Kylee Dulski picked up a bronze in the 100 hurdles (17.17).

JT’s Nujai Walcott was third in the 400 (53.86), while Tamaqua’s Brad Clemson was also third in 800 (2:03.79).

The JT boys 400 relay (44.13) and Tamaqua boys 3200 relay (8:32.56) teams both placed first.

Jim Thorpe’s girls 400 relay (52.79) and boys 1600 relay (3:34.81) were second.

The Tamaqua girls 3200 relay was third (10:16.04).

Abington Heights won both boys and girls team titles.

The Jim Thorpe boys were third, while the girls were fifth. The Tamaqua boys placed fifth, and the girls sixth.

ASD Invitational

Lehighton posted three firsts at the Allentown School District Invitational, while Palmerton and Northwestern each had one.

A total of 19 teams participated in the annual event.

The Indians received a first place from Tahmir Spencer in the 200, crossing the line in 23.28. In the girls competition, Kaia Slaw went 17-1 to claim the long jump, while Isabelle Meckes captured the discus with a throw of 107-7.

Palmerton’s Jordan Nelson broke the tape in 15.05 to take the 110 hurdles. Meanwhile, the Northwestern girls won the 3200 relay race in a time of 9:53.25.

Second-place finishers included Lehighton’s Slaw in the triple jump (35-6) and Palmerton’s Brianna Brennan in the 800 (2:27.46).

Taking home third-place honors were Lehighton’s Rhylee Sherwood (shot put), Grace Lienhard (javelin), and Spencer (100); Northwestern’s Alyssa Zack (800); and Palmerton’s Michael Eckhart (triple jump).

TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Jim Thorpe swept singles play en route to a 4-1 victory over Pottsville.

Singles players John Fedora, Emilio Mercado and Raymond O’Neil won in straight sets for the Olympians (7-8).

Josh Schaffner and Jake Ammermann led the Bears with convincing 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.

Colonial League

Championships

Palmerton’s No. 2 singles player, Mattis Willuhn, took third place at the Colonial League Championships at Saucon Valley.

Willuhn defeated Southern Lehigh’s Scott Polek in the quarterfinals before falling to Saucon’s Joel Thompson in the semifinals. The Blue Bomber then won the consolation match, claiming an 8-0 pro-set victory over Notre Dame’s Victor Blasi.

Palmerton’s Nate Andress (No. 1 singles) and Marc Roselli (No. 3) fell in the quarters.

The No. 2 doubles team of Kory Kratzer and Jon Hillanbrand, seeded eighth, gained an opening-round win to advance to the quarterfinals, but fell to the top-seeded and eventual champions from Moravian Academy.
