Palmerton picked up baseball and softball victories on Saturday.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to end this non-league game early, 12-2.

Dallas Greenzweig had a single, a run scored, and three RBIs for Pleasant Valley. Brent Beck, Collin Stivala, Justin Stasiak and Nick Gattuso all scored two runs.

Mike Bozilesky had a single and an RBI for the Indians. Sean Heery also drove in a run.

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Palmerton took an early lead over Catasauqua and added enough insurance later to prevail for the 9-7 Colonial League win.

Zach Silfies was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Bombers offensively. Ben Serfass added two hits, an RBI and a stolen base, while Jake Taschler had a double and two RBIs.

Palmerton’s Brody Boehler and Ryan King combined on the mound to record nine strikeouts.

Weatherly-Pine Grove

Pine Grove managed to sneak across the winning run on a throwing error in the bottom of the sixth frame to nab a 2-1 non-league victory over Weatherly.

Alex Witmer scored the game-winning tally for the Cardinals, who got an RBI from Garrett Lehman earlier on to tie the game.

The Wreckers managed to take an early lead on an unearned run in the top of the first. Gary Buck and Stephen Yurchak had Weatherly’s sole hits.

Marian-Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg put an early end to a non-league outing with Marian, taking an 11-1 five-inning decision.

The Panthers’ Evan Along had a nice game from the mound, tossing a two-hitter and fanning five Colts along the way.

For Marian, Alex Kubishin (stolen base) and Matt Doherty (RBI) had the only hits.

Jim Thorpe-Williams Valley

Williams Valley edged Jim Thorpe, 4-3, in a non-league game.

Bronson Kelly scored a run and knocked in one in for the Vikings.

Luis Valdez had a pair of hits for Jim Thorpe. Justin Mahmde added a two-run single.

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Palmerton rolled to a 22-2 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

The Blue Bombers (2-2) erupted for 13 runs in the top of the fourth to inflict the mercy rule on Catty.

Lindsey Shimko led Palmerton, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored. Kailah Altemose had two hits and scored three runs, while Amanda Lalik had two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

For the Rough Riders, Erica Kuhar was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Pleasant Valley dropped a 15-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference decision to Nazareth.

Samantha Gorkos picked up the mound win for the Blue Eagles, while also contributing a double and a triple at the plate. Page Hahn’s three-run homer in the first and Serena Smith’s grand slam in the fifth bookended the winners’ offensive eruption.

Janelle Frable picked up the sole hit for the Bears.

Lake Lehman-Marian

Lake Lehman proved too much for Marian in this non-league outing, posting an 8-4 decision.

Chloe VanGorder had the big bat for the winners, as she belted two home runs in the game and had three RBIs. Hunter Kline was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homer.

For the Fillies, Macy Alansky was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Emily Shaud had a double and scored twice.

Weatherly-Jim Thorpe

Weatherly erupted for 13 runs in the third inning on its way to a 24-1 non-league victory over Jim Thorpe.

Corra Chincola had six RBIs for Weatherly, as she belted a triple, a double and a single in the three-inning, mercy-rule decision.

Nadia Soliman had a solo home run for the Olympians.

Northern Lehigh prevailed 3-0 over Northwestern in a Colonial League outing.

BOYS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Pen Argyl

Pen Argyl took a 4-1 decision over Jim Thorpe in non-league action, sweeping through the singles’ matches in straight sets.

The sole team point for the Olympians (3-3) came in doubles where Matt Widdicombe and Connor Rodgers teamed up to blank their opponents, 6-0, 6-0.

Notre Dame GP-Palmerton

Palmerton managed wins in the top two singles matches, but still suffered a 3-2 Colonial League loss at the hands of Notre Dame of Green Pond.

Nate Andress had to battle back after a first-set loss to take his match at No. 1 singles, while Mattis Willuhn swept his opponent at No. 2 singles.

Juliana Lopez led the Bears with five goals. Alyssa Grieco added a pair of scores, while Alyssa Lopez had one.

Pleasant Valley goalie Danni Reino stopped five shots.
