Local Sports Roundup: Results from Feb. 9
The Lehighton girls defeated Blue Mountain on Friday to force a tie for the Schuylkill Division 1 wild card.
Marian and Pleasant Valley also picked up victories in scholastic action, as did Tamaqua’s wrestling team.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Blue Mountain-Lehighton
Aubrey Blasiak and Skylynn Faust both scored 17 points to power Lehighton to a 49-34 Schuylkill League win over Blue Mountain.
The victory, coupled with North Schuylkill’s win over Pine Grove, forced a tie for the Division 1 wild-card participant in the league playoffs.
The Indians (15-7; 10-4) will now meet the Cardinals Monday at Blue Mountain in a tiebreaker game. The winner advances to Wednesday’s semifinal contest against Mahanoy Area at Martz Hall.
Blasiak tallied eight of her points in the fourth quarter as Lehighton used a 20-point frame to pull away from the Eagles.
Emily Miller chipped in with eight points.
In the JV game, the Indians posted a 40-21 win.

A huge fourth quarter allowed Marian to rally for a 48-35 Schuylkill League win over Nativity.
Emily Shaud scored nine of her 14 points in the final frame to help the Fillies outscore their opponent 24-5 and offset a six-point deficit.
Macy Alansky tallied a team-high 15 points, including eight in the last period, for Marian (16-6; 10-3). Emma McClafferty chipped in with nine.
The Golden Girls received a team-high 15 points from Samantha Heenan.

A 21-point effort by Masani Francis propelled Pleasant Valley to a 61-47 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.
Francis and Alexa Clark each tallied seven points during a 25-point second quarter that turned a deficit into a double-digit halftime lead.
Madison Rosenberg contributed 10 points to the win, while the Bears (13-9) also received nine from Clark.

Pottsville rallied in the fourth quarter to post a 50-44 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.
Sadie Comfort scored a team-high 16 points for the Tide, who overcame a nine-point deficit heading into the final frame.
The Blue Raiders (11-11) received a game-high 19 points from Emma Kuczynski, while Emily Titus contributed 12 and Sophia Boyle chipped in with 10.
In the JV game, Pottsville earned a 25-23 victory.

Pocono Mountain West pulled away from Pleasant Valley for a 71-58 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.
The Panthers, who outscored PV in every quarter, were led by Lee Mosley’s 21 points.
The Bears (11-11) received a team-high 10 points from Andrius Harrison-Gaddist, while Isaiah Howard and Ashtom Smith both finished with eight.

Tamaqua used four pins to help gain a 48-17 non-league win over Pocono Mountain East.
Bronson Strouse registered the night’s fastest fall with a 22-second mat slap at 285 pounds. The Blue Raiders also received pins from Carson Krell at 170, Michael Shlanta at 106, and Caleb Sell at 132.
Tamaqua gained decision wins from Kahlid Holland, Nate Wickersham, Brandon Eberts, and Randolph Steigerwalt.
