Pleasant Valley posted wins in both ends of a boys-girls doubleheader with East Stroudsburg North.

In other action Friday, the Jim Thorpe boys and Northwestern girls also posted victories.

Meanwhile, in wrestling action, 10 area grapplers advanced to the semifinal round of the CoalCracker Tournament.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley evened its record at 8-8 after holding off East Stroudsburg North, 37-35, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contest.

Deshawn Scarboro scored a game-high 11 points, including six in the fourth quarter. The Bears also received eight points from Andrius Harrison-Gaddist.

For North, Henry Brown tallied a team-high 10 points.

Jim Thorpe jumped out to a big halftime lead and cruised to a 49-35 Schuylkill League victory over Minersville.

Nate Rosahac had 13 points to lead the Olympians (10-8, 4-6). Zach Searfoss added 10 points, while Tyler Burak and Justin Marykwas chipped in eight points apiece.

Southern Lehigh posted a 49-39 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

The Spartans (9-9, 8-5) were led by Daryl Coleman’s 20 points.

For Northern Lehigh (10-9, 7-8), which still needs one more win to qualify for districts, Brandon Hess had 16 points and Preston Kemmery added eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-Palmerton

Sydney Sevrain poured in a game-high 16 points as Northwestern cruised to a 54-25 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Sevrain tallied nine of her points in the second quarter as the Tigers (14-4; 12-2) built a 17-point halftime lead.

Gabrielle Sevrain contributed 11 points to the victory, while Sage Christopher chipped in with nine.

For the Blue Bombers (8-11; 7-7), Linnaea Leister scored a team-high 11 points.

Madison Rosenberg tossed in a game-high 20 points to help Pleasant Valley earn a 39-36 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.

Rosenberg scored 10 of her points in the opening quarter as the Bears (10-6) raced to a 10-point lead.

The winners also received seven points from Alexa Clark.

Olivia Synder tallied 18 points for the Spartans, while Ellie Cassel added 14.

The Bulldogs (6-13) also received eight points from Jill Olewine.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

A big game from Rachel Edge propelled Pine Grove to a 52-32 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Edge scored 23 points, including 15 in the first half when the Cardinals jumped out to a 15-point advantage.

The Olympians (6-12; 1-9) received a team-high nine points and 10 rebounds from Payton Kovac. Natalia Richards finished with eight points, while Brandy Montemuro pulled down eight boards.

Pine Grove also won the JV game, 39-19.

Pottsville rallied from a double-digit deficit to defeat Lehighton, 48-37, in Schuylkill League action.

The Crimson Tide (11-6, 6-4), who trailed 17-7 after one quarter, were led by Catie Coyle’s 12 points.

Aubrey Blasiak and Skylynn Faust both scored 10 points for the Indians (12-5, 7-3).

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Tamaqua’s Emma Kuczynski scored a game-high 19 points, but it wasn’t enough as Blue Mountain pulled out a 45-37 Schuylkill League victory.

Kuczynski now has 716 career points and moved into 19th place on the program’s scoring list, passing Tara Rottet with 705.

The Blue Raiders (10-7; 3-7) also received 10 points from Emily Titus.

Emily Fasnacht and Leah Pishock both scored 15 points for the Eagles.

In the JV game, Tamaqua won a 34-31 decision behind Baylee Reinhardt’s 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Averi Jordan scored 26 points, including 14 from the foul line, to help North Schuylkill pull away from Panther Valley for an 84-36 Schuylkill League win.

The winners, who exploded for 29 first-quarter points, also received 22 from Samantha Shinkus.

PV (6-12; 1-10) received a team-high 19 points from Erika Dubosky.

In the JV game, the Spartans posted a 51-17 victory.

WRESTLING

CoalCracker Tournament

Ten Times News area wrestlers have reached the semifinal round of the CoalCracker Wrestling Tournament, which is being hosted by Panther Valley.

A total of 32 schools are participating in the event.

Northwestern and the host Panthers both have three wrestlers alive in the winner’s bracket. The Tigers advanced Matt Peters (132 pounds), Jackson Bernhard (152) and Caleb Clymer (160). PV’s three hopefuls for a gold include Tanner Kennedy (160), Hunter Kennedy (170) and Derek Beckham (182).

Northern Lehigh has two in the semis — Preston Bauer at 120, and Seth Fronheiser at 132, while Jim Thorpe’s John Newhall (113) and Tamaqua’s Bronson Strouse (220) account for the other TN semifinalists.

The Blue Raiders also have seven wrestlers alive in the consolation rounds, They include Michael Shlanta (106), Randolph Steigerwalt (113), Aaron Coccio (120), Pierce Demetriades (126), Caleb Sell (132), Brandon Mader (138), and Kahlid Holland (152).

Six other Northwestern grapplers are still in the mix for a medal. They are Jake Dellicker (106), Harrison Bernhard (126), Colin Rex (138), Ryan Havercamp (170), Isaac Bredbenner (182), and Quinn Moyer (220).

Other area wrestlers still battling in the consis include Palmerton’s Shawn Gardner (126), Matt Lalik (138), Lucas Christman (145), and Kyle Kralik (195); Jim Thorpe’s William Schwartz (106), Austin Williams (182), and Ethan Mordaunt (195); Northern Lehigh’s Damion Rodriguez (170) and Dominic Bandle (220); and Panther Valley’s Chris Walkinshaw (220) and Aaron Eidem (285).

7th GRADE BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

Tamaqua posted a narrow 24-23 win over North Schuylkill.

Cameron Lewis led the Blue Raiders with nine points.
