Local Sports Roundup: Results from Oct. 18

Tamaqua posted wins in both boys and girls soccer on Thursday.

BOYS SOCCER

Minersville-Tamaqua

Michael Shlanta had a hat trick to help Tamaqua roll to a 9-1 non-league victory over Minersville.

Shlanta scored the first two goals of the game as the Blue Raiders gained a 3-0 halftime lead.

Tyler Steigerwalt finished with a goal and two assists for the winners, while Nathaniel Noftz added a goal and a helper.

Other goals for Tamaqua (14-3-1) came from Mason Dolinsky, Derian Stianche, Khalid Holland, and Ryan Fisher. Jacob Ruby and Brian Milot both chipped in with a pair of assists.

The Raiders had a 22-13 advantage in shots, with winning goalie Luke Verta making 12 saves.

In the JV contest, Tamaqua gained a 3-2 win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

A hat trick from Emma Kuczynski lifted Tamaqua to a 4-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Sophia Boyle also scored for the Blue Raiders, who captured their third straight victory.

Katelyn Rudy had two assists for the winners, while Boyle and McKenna Kane each had one.

Tamaqua (11-5; 6-5) oushot the Olympians by a 16-6 margin.

In the JV game, a goal by Ashley Jones gave the Raiders a 1-0 victory.
