Northwestern’s William Norman placed third at the Colonial League golf championships on Monday.

Palmerton’s Josh Mooney was sixth at the event, while Tamaqua’s Tavio Agosti also took sixth at the Schuylkill League match.

GOLF

Colonial League

Championships

Moravian Academy swept the boys and girls titles at the Colonial League Championships.

Davis Koch won the boys crown for the Lions with an 83, defeating teammate Will McKay on the second playoff hole. Grace Sanborn captured the girls championship, shooting a 90.

Northwestern’s William Norman was the top area male, finishing third with an 84. The Tigers’ Gabrielle Smalley shot a 119 and was the top area female with a sixth-place finish.

Palmerton’s Josh Mooney placed sixth with an 85.

The top five male and first two female finishers earned District 11 qualifier exemptions.

Moravian Academy captured the team title with 425 points. Palmerton was fourth with 460 points.

Schuylkill League

Championships

Schuylkill Haven’s Albe Evans fired a 79 at Mountain Valley Golf Course to capture first place at the annual Schuylkill League Championships.

Evans finished five strokes ahead of runner-up Ryan Ciocco of Lourdes.

Tamaqua’s Tavio Agosti shot an 85 to tie for the third best score, but ended up in sixth place after a playoff.

Marian, led by Jacob Artz’s 87, ended the team competition in fourth place.

Blue Mountain took first in the team standings, with Lourdes ending in second.

In the girls competition, Blue Mountain’s Sophie Orsulak was the winner with a 91. The top area finisher was Marian’s Emily Reaman, who shot a 123 and finished fifth.

VOLLEYBALL

Panther Valley-Tamaqua

Panther Valley rolled to a 25-8, 25-12, 25-17 win over Tamaqua.

Rachelle Filer had 13 kills, 14 service points (six aces), four digs and four blocks for the Panthers. Erika Dubosky added 13 digs and 10 service points, while Olivia Dacey recorded 10 kills and seven digs.

Emilee Kwaak had six kills, while Sarah Zabroski and Jenna Dubosky dished out 22 and 17 assists, respectively, and Alexis Cooper added five digs.

Ella McLaughlin led the Blue Raiders with 28 digs and three aces, while Emily Amershek recorded 11 kills and five digs. Brynn Gigli followed with six assists.

 

North Schuylkill-Marian

Marian knocked off North Schuylkill for a 25-9, 25-11, 25-22 Schuylkill League victory.

Tatianna Zeleniak paced the Fillies’ offensive with 11 assists and eight aces, while Kate Spillman followed with nine aces and six digs.

Ashlyn Klitchs (five assists) and Alivia Karchner (five kills) contributed in the win.

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 25-16, 25-10, 25-14 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Dieruff.

Cameron Caffrey led the Bears with 21 assists, seven digs and three kills, while Desi Powell chipped in with 14 kills and four digs.

Ari Weaver (nine digs, six kills), Ari Thourot (five aces, three assists) and Summer Karaman (five kills, two aces) also had strong showings.

Pleasant Valley improves to 9-1-1 overall, and 6-1 in the EPC.

Blue Mountain swept Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League action, 26-24, 25-22, 25-15.

Brandy Montemuro had 14 digs, four assists, and six kills to lead the Olympians. Abbey McGinley had 10 digs, while Kelsey Carroll chipped in with 14 digs, eight assists, and six kills.

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Pine Grove bested Lehighton for a 25-15, 25-16, 25-23 Schuylkill League victory.

Lillian Brown recorded 13 digs and four aces for the Indians, while Alyssa Frey followed with 12 assists.

Samantha Banning (12 digs), Sydney Vincent (four kills, four digs) and Alexis Soloman (four kills) also had solid performances.

Weatherly-Millersburg

Weatherly dropped a 20-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 Schuylkill League decision to Millersburg.

The Wreckers received five kills and eight aces from Emily Zoscin, while DeAnna Strouse chipped in with two kills, two assist, and two aces.

BOYS SOCCER

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Nathaniel Noftz’s goal in overtime lifted Tamaqua to a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain.

Derian Stianche also added a second-half goal for the Blue Raiders.

Tamaqua’s keeper Luke Vertz finished with five saves.

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Jim Thorpe cruised to a 5-0 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Pottsville. Alex Putt recorded a hat trick for the Olympians and added an assist.

The winners, who held a 2-0 lead at the break, also received a big game from Thor Huth, who finished with two goals and a pair of helpers.

Coyote Acevedo and Robbie Renode chipped in with assists, while keeper Kingsley Ehling made 10 saves.

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Pine Grove defeated Lehighton 2-1 in Schuylkill League action.

Mitchell Lesh scored the Cardinals’ two goals.

Drew Lorenz posted the Indians’ lone score. Indians’ keeper Zack Andrew finished with four saves.

Lourdes-Weatherly

Two goals from Josh Andeuzzi helped Weatherly gain a 6-1 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.

The Wreckers, who held a 10-2 advantage in corners, also received goals from Antonio Colecio, Mason Gerhart, Tyler Veasie and Elijah Derr.

The win lifts Weatherly’s record to 3-5.

 

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Northwestern

Palmerton and Northwestern played to a 0-0 tie in a Colonial League contest.

The Blue Bombers held a 7-6 edge in shots; both teams recorded 12 penalty corners.

Alena Smargiassi and Taylor Page split time in front of the Tigers’ net and combined for seven saves.

Bombers’ keeper Maddy Serto finished with four saves.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Lehighton-Catasauqua

Haleigh Toto’s four goals sparked Catasauqua to a 6-0 non-league win over Lehighton.

The Rough Riders’ Maddy Warren and Olivia Moyer both found the back of the net.

TENNIS

Northampton-Tamaqua

Northampton cruised to a 5-0 victory over Tamaqua.

The Konkrete Kids won all five matches in straight sets.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

8th GRADE

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Tamaqua cruised to a 37-15 victory over Jim Thorpe.

Plasha scored a Blue Raiders’ high 18 points, while Minchoff followed with 12.

Hartman led the Olympians with 11 points.

Nativity-Weatherly

Weatherly picked up a 36-23 win over Nativity.

Ashley Pleban’s 10 points paced the Wreckers. Madyson VonFrisch and Jackie Guth scored eight points apiece.

7th GRADE

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Jim Thorpe defeated Tamaqua for a 20-18 win.

Rorman finished with an Olympian high six points.

The Blue Raiders’ Beers and McArdle both tied for a Blue Raiders’ high four.
