Longtime Carbon clerk of courts announces retirement
Carbon County’s longtime clerk of courts is retiring.
William McGinley, a Democrat, who has served as the clerk of courts since 1990, recently sent a letter with his intent to retire to the governor’s office.
He confirmed the letter, but said that he had no comment on the matter when contacted on Friday.
Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein also confirmed that a letter from McGinley was sent to the governor’s office, but wasn’t sure if the governor had received it as of Friday.
He added that he can’t go into details regarding the letter or McGinley’s retirement midterm, because of it being a personnel matter.
McGinley’s retirement is effective May 1.
The next step will be to fill the vacancy, which must by done by an appointment from the governor, Nothstein said, adding that the person must also be a Democrat.
