William J. Schmidt, of Jim Thorpe, resigned as Civil Defense director and courthouse clock custodian during a meeting of the Carbon County Commissioners.
The board named Nelson Norwood, Jim Thorpe, as the new director, subject to the approval of the Civil Service Commission and the appointment of Gov. William Scranton. He will be paid $900 per year.
Norwood previously served as Civil Defense director and was chief clerk to the commissioners before the Democrats took over the commissioners’ office in 1960.
Thomas H. Dougherty, of Jim Thorpe, was named as clock custodian at a salary of $10 per month.
