A look back: April 16, 1962
The First Presbyterian Church of Summit Hill is sponsoring a program titled “Cleanup” at the old Presbyterian Cemetery, which occupies a full block between Hazard and Fell streets and is in need of a good cleaning before the Memorial Day services.
The cemetery is the oldest in the community, and before the GAR cemetery, all Protestant faiths of the Panther Valley made it their burial grounds. The remains of pioneer residents of the Valley are interred there, and monuments for veterans of all wars before World War II, beginning with the Mexican War, can be found.
The burial grounds have been in deplorable condition for some time.
