A look back: April 17, 1966
The Dinkey Memorial Church in Ashfield held a special congregational meeting and voted to merge with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Big Creek, Franklin Township, and form one parish.
Dinkey has been without a pastor since June 10, 1963, when the Rev. Daniel Shook accepted a call to Philadelphia. St. Paul’s has not had a pastor since the resignation of the Rev. Paul Buehrle on Nov. 15, 1959.
The Rev. Luther K. Mohr, case and social worker for the Lutheran Children’s Bureau in Schuylkill County, served as supply pastor and supervised the voting. The vote was 61-1 to merge.
The Dinkey Memorial Church congregation and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bowmanstown, split as a parish on Aug. 11, 1963.
