A look back: April 20, 1998
The late Bill Clemens and the Keystone Fish and Hunt Club received a trio of honors from the Borough of Tamaqua and the Tamaqua Area 2004 Partnership when the annual Kellner’s Dam fishing derby was held this weekend.
The access road from Pitt Street to Kellner’s Dam was named Clemens Lane through a resolution adopted by town council, while the club received a Tamaqua Area 2004 Community Improvement Award. In addition, a historical marker for Kellner’s Dam was unveiled near the entrance to the newly named Clemens Lane.
Kellner’s Dam was constructed in the late 1800s by Kellner and Co., which operated a slaughterhouse meat processing plant and ice house just below the dam on Pitt Street.
