A look back: April 29, 1966
Carbon County landowners during the past fiscal year received a total of $49,595 in right of way payments to make way for highway improvements within the county.
A check with the State Department of Highways shows that the property damage settlements involved 23 claims within the county.
Of this number, 21 claims were settled “amicably,” involving payments totaling $44,945. In one case, settlement was arrived at by “viewers” or impartial appraisers, with the damages in this case amounting to $150.
In one instance, it was necessary for a disputed property claim to be taken to a jury, with damages settled at $4,500, the department said.
