A look back: Aug. 4, 1997
A Blue Spruce tree in West Penn Park was dedicated to the memory of Lydia E. Knepper during Senior Fun Day activities in the park, sponsored by the West Penn Lions and Lioness clubs.
Knepper, who passed away in May 1996 at the age of 91, was the widow of William D. Knepper, who died in 1936. She was the owner and operator of Knepper’s Inn, Snyders, for 60 years, retiring in 1991 because of illness.
Knepper was hostess of the Lions Club for many years, from the 1950s through the 1970s.”She was a mother to all of us,” said Lion Sherwood Balliet. “She took us in for many years and served a meal second to none. We all looked forward to those nights.”
