A look back: Aug. 5, 1985
The Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company had a double celebration on Saturday. It dedicated a new pumper-tanker combination and noted its 50th birthday.
Several thousand people were on hand for the festivities, which included an equipment parade, a dedication and anniversary program and a block party.
Blanche Rehrig, one of the oldest members of the auxiliary, christened the new truck by breaking a bottle of Champagne on the front bumper. Gary Williams of the Mowery Fire Fighting Apparatus Company awarded the keys to the truck to company President Delmas Whiteman. A clock plaque was presented to Fire Chief Ernest Guldner by volunteer Mike Spairana in memory of the late Willard Solt.
