A look back: Dec. 10, 1970
A new three-year contract for 47 union workers at the Mack Trucks Sales and Service Center in South Whitehall Township provides wage increases totaling $1.19 an hour. Agreement on the new contract was reached for mechanics and parts men at the center who are affiliated with Local 1099 of the International Association of Mechanists and Aerospace Workers.
The settlement ended an 11-week strike.
Union Business Agent Clair Gross said the new pact calls for 39 cents an hour of wage increase to be paid immediately. Thirty cents will be added Dec. 15, 1971, and 30 more cents on Sept. 15, 1972. The increase will be added to the mechanics’ wage scale, which was $3.51 an hour before the settlement.
