A look back: Dec. 11, 2006

The Allentown Diocese has established a Diocesan Pastoral Council to recommend and implement changes that are apparently imminent for the diocese’s 151 parishes and 60 Catholic schools.

The council is made up of 16 laypersons, eight priests, one nun and a deacon, including three from Carbon County.

The local council members include Monsignor John Chizmar, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe, Michele Varley of Lansford and ToniMarie Zeleniak of Lehighton.

In addition, the Rev. Edward Zemanik, a Tamaqua native, and Anne Girard of Coaldale, will represent Schuylkill County on the council.
