A look back: Dec. 14, 1963

The Phoenix Hose Company, Jim Thorpe, conducted its annual reorganization last night, electing James Mertz as president.

Also elected were: Ray Smith, vice president; Ray Joseph, secretary; and Vincent Eckhart.

Joseph will also serve as assistant fire marshal in representing that company.

Others named to positions are John R. McGinley, Joseph Wilhelm and Francis Smith, trustees; and James Higgins, Joseph and McGinley, Firemen’s Relief Association representatives.

Joseph, McGinley, Mertz, Clement Burns and Eugene Dougherty were named to be delegates to the four-county and Carbon County firemen’s associations conventions.
