A look back: Dec. 24, 1957

Published December 24. 2019 10:06AM

Ambrose O’Donnell, former Carbon County commissioner, has been elected president of a reactivated Summit Hill Taxpayers Association, which came to light last night at a public meeting to protest increased real estate assessments under the county’s state-mandated reassessment program.

An estimated 300 property owners attended the meeting in the Summit Hill High School auditorium.

Committees were named to circulate among the community and secure appeals with the idea of presenting mass appeals to the county board. A number of those in attendance said they never saw an evaluator at their homes, being of the belief both the interior and exterior of properties should be carefully surveyed before an assessment figure is placed on them.
