A look back: Dec. 7, 1979

The Tamaqua Area School Board voted at last night’s reorganizational meeting unanimously to name veteran board member Dennis McLaughlin as its new president.

Also voted in unanimously was Ronald Werner, vice president. McLaughlin and Werner were the only names placed on the floor to fill the officers’ positions.

Oaths of office were taken by McLaughlin, G. Robert Bennett, Robert Betz and Jacqueline Shafer.

Outgoing board member Dwight Schoener was recognized for his 17 years of service to the district, as was veteran past Vice President Robert Evans, for his 20 years of service and contributions to the board.
