A look back: December 11, 1996

The Rev. Doris Bray, who was ordained a priest in 1978, has been named an honorary canon by the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem.

The designation is intended to recognize not only the ministry Bray had both in Lehighton and Palmerton, but throughout the diocese, according to Archdeacon Rick Cluett.

Throughout her ministry, Bray has been a missionary. In the Episcopal Church that means a priest who serves without salary.

The wife of Marvin Bray, the 1980 graduate of Moravian Seminary said, “I care nothing about the title. I’m still Doris. But the honor — that brings tears to my eyes.”
