A look back: December 7, 1963
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the ownership and operation of the Hotel Switzerland by the Weiksner family. The establishment was purchased by the late George and Anna Weiksner on Dec. 7, 1923, from the estate of the late John T. Mulhern of Lansford.
Mr. and Mrs. Weiksner started in the hotel business more than 60 years ago in Coaldale, moving to the Hackelbernie Hotel in 1921, a property which remains in the ownership of the Weiksner family.
The couple’s sons, George and Albert, now own and operate the hotel. Proudly displayed today in the tavern is the first beer and liquor license issued in Jim Thorpe following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933.
