Lehighton Area High School held an elimination oratory contest this morning to determine representatives to the upcoming Carbon County Oratorical Contest.

The girl winner was Patricia Bowman, whose oration was titled “Is Violence a National Affliction?”

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bowman of Lehighton R.3.

The boy winner was Kenneth Bickel, son of the Rev. and Mrs. George Bickel of 232 Franklin St., Weissport, who spoke on “Let Us Breathe.”

Runners-up were Anita Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hall, and Bruce Messinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arland Messinger, both of Lehighton.
