A look back: February 3, 1988

Carbon County Sheriff Peter Hoherchak has named William F. Juracka, a county prison work release director for the past eight years, as acting warden effective 4 p.m. Friday.

Current Warden William Clarke’s resignation takes effect at that time.

Juracka said he talked to Hoherchak about assuming the acting warden position, but he said he wants his responsibilities carefully defined and put into writing. While he knows he will be reporting directly to the sheriff, he wants to know which responsibilities are his and which are the sheriff’s.

Juracka said he would apply for the position, but would not accept the job for $18,000 or $19,000, which Hoherchak suggested as an appropriate salary.
