A look back: Jan. 15, 1965

Thomas Bynon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bynon of 52 E. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, was judged the boy winner, and Miss Edith Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John El. Mitchell of 126 W. Ridge St., Lansford, the girl winner, at an elimination oratory contest held Tuesday at the Panther Valley Joint High School.

Bynon, a senior, used “Let Us Pray” as his topic, while Mitchell, a sophomore, used her subject, “A Gift of Love.”

The boy runner-up was Robert Ames, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Ames of Second Street, Coaldale, while the girl runner-up was Nancy Strauss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Strauss of 219 E. Bertsch St., Lansford.
