A look back: Jan. 24, 1983
More than 500 people attended the formal dedication ceremony of Jim Thorpe’s Memorial Hall on Saturday afternoon, converging on the new $800,000 recreational facility for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, cocktail party, dinner and dance.
Thomas Harter, an honorary member of the commission, cut the ribbon to open the ceremonies, followed by addresses by Mayor Michael Hichok and Carbon County Commissioner Charles E. Wildoner, a resident of Jim Thorpe.
The commission is headed by Norbert “Tish” Lesisko. The master of ceremonies was Phillip Rodgers, commission treasurer. The Rev. John Swavely, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, offered the invocation.
