A look back: Jan. 4, 1983

Joseph J. Hornick Jr., Carbon County’s chief juvenile probation officer for the past three years, yesterday was named by the county commissioners as acting executive director of youth services, a new position.

The 26-year-old college graduate and a resident of Coxeville, Banks Township, will receive an annual salary of $23,000, part of which will be reimbursed by state agencies.

Hornick will continue to supervise the juvenile court probation office, as well as taking on new duties of overseeing the county office of Children and Youth Services. The previous administrator, Katherine Romano-Ferrence, resigned the post to accept a job with the state.
