A look back: Jan. 8, 1968
The large barn on the farm of the Patrick J. McCall Estate in the Mahoning Valley, a familiar landmark along Route 443, was destroyed by fire Friday night.
The huge structure was leveled in about an hour. Also lost in the fire were a pony and two horses and a 1953 Mercedes limousine owned by Paul McGorry, who occupies a farm house on the estate.
When the barn was completed in 1945, it was one of the most modern milk producing facilities in the entire state and the farm tract, with its imposing residence, was a showpiece.
Emmett McCall of Lansford, a son of the late owner, was unable to immediately give an estimate of the damage.
