A look back: January 2, 1930
Residents of the city of Pottsville and Schuylkill County who have been threatened with the necessity of starting the new year by being forced to walk to work today enjoyed a six-day legal truce in the local trolley war.
A temporary injunction, petitioned by the Trolley Company, was granted by Judge Henry Houck of Shenandoah, restraining the city council from carrying into effect its order prohibiting the operation of the East Penn Electric Company trolley lines.
The council’s ultimatum marked the climax of a dispute which began when the city insisted the company pay a share of the cost of a new concrete highway along which the tracks are located.
