A look back: January 23, 1967

Attorney John Deutsch, Lehighton, is Carbon County’s new District Attorney.

Deutsch, who served as first assistant district attorney for the past seven years, was appointed District Attorney by Judge Albert H. Heimbach today.

The official order signed by the court was filed in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joseph Modrick and stipulates that the appointee shall serve the unexpired term of the late District Attorney George Kerestes, who died unexpectedly of a heart seizure on the afternoon of Jan. 10.

Deutsch was appointed first when the late Kerestes began his first term as district attorney of Carbon County on Jan. 1, 1962.
