A news conference headed by Vice President Spiro Agnew was held in Washington, D.C., for local and state government officials concerning President Nixon’s flood proposal to Congress.

Attending from Carbon were Agnes McCartney, director of the planning commission; Albert U. Koch, chairman of the board of commissioners; and Joseph P. Orsulak, chief clerk; while representing Schuylkill County was Commissioner Charles Dimmerling.

About 600 people from the state affected by the flood attended the conference and heard Nixon’s recommendation that all property owners and businesses affected by the flood receive a $5,000 grant.
